Lucasfilm released a 15-second teaser of “The Force Awakens” this morning exclusively through Instagram and took the world by storm. Although the mini-teaser contained only two new shots, this might have been one of the most remarkably effective teasers I’ve ever seen.
Watch for yourself and see:
This piece is notable for a couple of reasons: first, this is a new arrangement of the Imperial March in the background, presumably from the new score John WIlliams has been working on for “The Force Awakens.” Second, this is our first look at John Boyega wielding a lightsaber in the flesh, though it was a moment presaged by the Drew Struzan poster released at D23 a couple of weeks ago.
The trailer, like all of the trailers for “The Force Awakens,” is imbued with a sense of desperate urgency that I’m excited to see play out on the big screen.
Instagram also used this opportunity to announce that with their new update you’d be able to post videos and content in a widescreen format, which is a significant departure from previous iterations of the service.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theatres December 18, 2015.
