SCEA has announced this morning that their system sold 1 million units in the first 24 hours of launch. When looking at the install base of previous systems you may think this is not success, but in fact is huge. The Wii sold 600,000 units within its frist week and was one of the hardest to find and most popular console launches of its time. The PS4 was only released in the United States and Canada and has yet to hit the rest of the world. 1 million units is to date is the largest console launch yet. It also puts a large amount of pressure on Microsoft for their Friday release, if they can’t meet or exceed Sony’s numbers then we will begin to see the “console generation winner” title being handed out early.
Analysts have been speculating that the consoles will both sell closely, with the Playstation eventually edging out the Xbox by a few hundred thousand units. The holiday slug fest is in our sights, it’s time to grab some popcorn and watch the bloodshed, or.. tweeting, whatever.
We’re 4 days away from the Xbox One launch are you snagging yours at midnight, and if so what games will be accompanying your purchase? We’d love to know, sound off below!
