INTERVIEW (Audio): Phil LaMarr

The so-prolific-it’s-crazy Mr. Phil LaMarr took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to BigShinyRobot. He’s involved with a new kids show on “The Hub” network (in the vein of “Yu-Gi-Oh” and “Pokemon”). The new show from Hasbro is called “Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters.” Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are also creating a trading card game based on the show.

The three main protagonists are “Duel Masters” who can summon creatures of various elemental affinities from parallel dimensions and control them (to some extent) and the creatures, you guessed it, duel. I had a chance to check out the screener and it’s looking like a quality show, especially for those of you with offspring who need entertaining. It’s genuinely funny, the creature designs are pretty rad, and the battles aren’t nearly as convoluted as a show like “Yu-Gi-Oh.”

Anyway, listen in! I know you want to hear Phil LaMarr make a Star Wars reference in the voice of Hermes, because who doesn’t?

Kaijudo has a pretty talented voice cast on board: LaMarr of course, John DiMaggio (“Futurama,” “Adventure Time”), Scott Wolf (“Party of Five”), Freddy Rodriguez (“Ugly Betty”), Oded Fehr (“The Mummy”), and Kari Wahlgren (“The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”). Kaijudo premieres on The Hub network June 2nd at 8pm ET/PT, so be sure to check it out!
