Stupidity In a One-Sheet

I know this is a site for all things nerdtacular, but as I paruse the internet, I often come across a lot of stupid shit. A lot. Today, comingsoon.net “debuted” the one-sheet for the movie “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” and my blood boiled…I only have one question: Who at Disney thought this

was a good idea?!Maybe the stellar cast of Piper Perabo, Manolo Cardona, Jamie Lee Curtis, Andy Garcia, Placido Domingo, George Lopez, Edward James Olmos, Paul Rodriguez, and Piolin (Exactly. Who?) will make this flick amazing. Because, after all, who doesn’t want to see the adventures of a chihuahua from Beverly Hills that gets lost in the mean streets of Mexico but with the help of some unlikely friends finds her way back home… or was she home all along? My sarcasm chip is overloading, I need to stop typing now.

The Incredible Hulk Movie Poster

Hopefully, this won’t suck as bad as the first one…

Pretty sweet poster though, I think Marvel has done a great job with the work on the posters for both Iron Man and Hulk, now it’s just a waiting game until the movies are released.

Harvey Dent taken Hostage (With Video!)

The Dark Knight Viral Marketing campaign gets better and better.

Harvey Dent had a press conference today and a renegade Gotham Police officer, Frank Notaro, took a young woman hostage. According to the “News” section of the Gotham Police website, Notaro recently received a commendation for killing a gunman in Gotham.  The best information about Notaro can be found here (and sweet Jesus, these guys are thorough).

I’ve posted the audio of the press conference below.

And that’s where everything goes dead.

There has to be something more to this and we’re trying to figure it out.

This is from the Concerned Citizens For A Better Gotham website:

4/13 UPDATE:

One of the most incredible parts about being the founder of Concerned Citizens for a Better Gotham was meeting the incredible police officers who joined up. This message is for them.

To do what they did – to speak truth to power – took guts. People like Frank Notaro, an officer who stood up to the powerful and the elites, who stood up to Harvey Dent’s machine of intimidation and brutality, showed an incredible courage. An incredible braveness. They knew that they would be attacked viciously. Their motives questioned. But they knew that they had to speak out.

Now, the backlash against them may be violent. It may be brutal. But each man knows his duty. Each man knows what he must do for his honor. That’s why Concerned Citizens for A Better Gotham was founded. Honor.

Thanks, and Keep the Faith

Joseph Candoloro, Founder, Concerned Citizens for a Better Gotham

UPDATE: This was posted on the Harvey Dent website about an hour after the press conference:

Today’s press conference was unexpectedly cancelled due to a hostage crisis located at a nearby deli. In a selfless move, Mr. Dent entered the premises, exchanged himself for a woman who was being held at gunpoint, and negotiated the successful release of the remaining patrons in the restaurant. Watch this site for updates. We will release more details when they become available.

Theatrical Clone Wars Trailer

If there is one thing on earth the ol’ Swank bot loves more than robot pornography, it’s Star Wars.

And I’ve been reading for the last couple of days about this “leaked” Clone Wars trailer. I’ve been obsessing about it and I finally found a place that has it and hasn’t had it taken down.

If there is anyone out there, or staff here on BSR, that has he means to make a copy of this so we can host it here, that would be rad.

In the meantime, I have to say that this show looks rad. It’s been so long since I’ve been chained to a TV schedule (you know, since the canceled Futurama) but it’ll be a pleasure to be chained to this on Friday nights.

Silver Surfer Movie?

I was just browsing around the IMDb and found my way to Doug Jones’ page. We all know Doug Jones, he’s Abe Sapien and Silver Surfer and the Faun in Pan’s Labyrinth. I saw a Silver Surfer movie in the “announced” section so I decided to click the link.

I was instantly surprised and delighted to see that J. Micheal Straczynski is writing it and, more importantly, they’re trying to get Alex Proyas to direct. Alex Proyas is a great director and I’ve liked everything that I have seen of his work. (Including I, Robot, which a lot of people seem to be down on for some reason.) His sense of style and direction would complement the Silver Surfer perfectly, so I hope to see this project get off the ground. (And let’s face it, no matter who directed it, it couldn’t be worse than the crap Tim Story pulled with Galactus and the Surfer.)

Interesting sidenote: when I saw this, the first person I called was Swank-mo-tron to tell him, you know since he’s such an Alex Proyas nerd.  His response?  “Man, that’ll be Norrin Radd….  Get it?”

What a lame-o-tron.  He’s a few servos short of a robotic porcupine…

Poll Smoker: Legend of Zelda Movie

This featured poll was inspired by an argument between Kill-tacular-tron and Swank-mo-tron. They had both viewed the April Fool’s Legend of Zelda trailer on IGN.com.

Kill-tacular-tron thinks Ocarina of Time would best translate into a movie.

Swank-mo-tron’s vote is on A Link to the Past.

What do you think? Place your vote to the right.

Ben Stiller… Redemption?

It’s been a while, and I honestly thought that it was never going to happen, but I think I have now found a glimmer of hope that Ben Stiller will be in a good, funny movie once again. Let’s face it, Mr. Stiller’s track record hasn’t been great lately with such shit as “The Heartbreak Kid” and “Night at the Museum” (Yes, I know the latter made a lot of money, but did you see it? It sucked.  I challenge you to go rent it, watch it, and then not return and ask for your $3.95 back.), both movies were far less than entertaining and I can’t remember the last time I found him funny.

However, there seems to be a light on the horizon with his latest project, “Tropic Thunder”; Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey, Jr. star as… well… stars, who while filming a war movie get caught up in a real conflict and have to rely on the small amount of boot camp training they received to learn their roles. Stiller plays the stereotypical action star, Black plays the comedic schtick guy, and Downey plays the award winning actor who gets plastic surgery to become black… yes, Downey plays a “black” guy; there are also cameos by Tom Cruise (supposedly as a nearly unrecognizeable fat guy), Matthew McConaughey, and Tobey Maguire. Strictly judging by the trailer the movie looks promising, and hopefully signals a return to Stiller doing movies that are actually funny, despite the fact he is doing “Night at the Museum II”, maybe Tropic Thunder will be enough to let that slide…

10,000 BC review

From time to time I head to the local movie megaplex with a good robot friend of mine (who I’ll call Uniballicron to protect his true identity) and do what we’ve come to call the “Double Dip.” We buy tickets to one movie, then after that’s over we stick around, switch on “stealth mode,” and sneak in to another theater to complete our double feature. I remember the first time we did it we saw “Van Helsing” and then “Shrek 2.” Let’s just say that “Shrek 2” did a pretty good job of erasing the foul memory of “Van Helsing.” It only hurts a little these days.

So recently we headed out for another attempt at “Double Dipping.” Our movies of choice? George Clooney in “Leatherheads” was first up, which we followed up with “10,000 B.C.” Clooney’s pic was so-so. Nothing to spend any time writing about. But “10KBC” was spectacularly awful and that is why I’m putting pen to paper (so to speak). I’ve warned you all! This festering piece of crap is so bad, I almost walked out to ask for my money back. And I hadn’t even paid to see it! If someone offers to take you to see this waste of film, hit them in the head, then knee them in the crotch, and when they’re on the floor, run.

I’ve done my part.

His power level is over 9000!?

Yes, you may have heard, as I have, of the Dragonball movie in production under Dune Entertainment. You may ask, “Why in God’s name would they do that?” Or you may be on your knees crying with joy. That’s Dragonball, you either hate it with every fiber of your being, or you sit up at night holding your set of replication Dragonballs shouting “KAMEHA-MEHA!” at the top of your lungs each time one of the Saiyans belt out their famous chant, followed seconds later by mass obliteration of a large chunk of scenery.

This is Dragonball, for better or worse. The actual question here is: Will the movie be any good? According to different sources, it will follow the Piccolo story arc of the anime. Bold move, considering it’s one of the most beloved stories in the Dragonball series, and a bad move could send thousands of gel-haired fans into a tearful protest.

Goku sitting

One particular thing that may excite fans is that Akira Toriyama is billed as a writer for the film, along with Ben Ramsey. For those who don’t know, Toriyama-san is pretty much the father of Dragon ball, writing and drawing the original DB mangas and the hundreds of episodes for the TV show. He’s also famous for his work on the Dragon Quest series of video games. (Basically, wherever huge hair is present in games or anime, he’s usually in the credits)

But what about the talent? I’ll be honest: it doesn’t look good. Aside from Chow Yun-Fat, the whole thing has been filled with TV stars, with Justin Chatwin headlining as Goku. Yeah, I don’t know who he is, either… But, he was on one episode of Lost. Doesn’t that count for something?

I’ll find out for myself come April 8th of next year. After all, I do own Mortal Kombat on DVD…

The Animated Dr. Jones

indy-4.jpg

Well, not exactly animated.

Artist Patrick Schoenmaker seems to have been commissioned to do a bunch of animated style Indiana Jones artwork for various purposes, including sketch cards for an upcoming set of Indiana Jones collectible movie cards.

This stuff is really, really good.

My first question is this: Why isn’t there an animated Indiana Jones series on the slate?

My second question is this: Why isn’t this guy drawing some comic books?
