UPDATED: Hellboy II – New Trailer, New Photos!

HB II: TGA

Yahoo! Movies recently posted a load of new pics from the upcoming Hellboy II: The Golden Army that you can check out here. And be sure to catch the new trailer for the flick also debuting at the Hellboy II page on Yahoo! Movies tomorrow.

From what I’ve seen I think this movie will surpass the original, which I thought was fantastic, but like with most things (especially comic-based movies) it’s probably best to reserve judgement until the film is in theaters. The first film greatly benefited from Mr. Mike Mignola himself having a hand in writing the picture. Any time you have the source writer involved with the big screen adaptations of his own creations you will generally get a good quality film, and I think numero dos will be no exception, but unfortunately we are still 3 months away from finding out for sure.

Look for Hellboy II: The Golden Army to hit the theaters July 11.

UPDATE: They posted the trailer.

That’s the Spirit…

That’s the Spirit…

In my robot memory files there’s really no debating that Will Eisner is one of the best, if not THE best, comic artists of all time. The Spirit is a fun read and the visuals are amazing. Flat out spectacular at times. I felt that Darywn Cooke’s (New Frontier) 12 issue run on the lastest series, published by DC Comics, was excellent stuff too. Let’s not get crazy and say it was Eisner-level stuff, but it was quite good. Now we have Frank Miller (All-Star Batman & Robin, Sin City) working on a Spirit motion picture. I’m interested to see how “Eisner-meets-Miller filtered through a ‘Sin City’ filming style” works out on screen. I will say that the posters/ad art we’ve seen so far has been pretty cool. More Miller than Eisner, but that’s to be expected. This lastest piece, a triple-wide poster is looking pretty smooth.

Dark Knight Pictures (spoiler?)

Here’s a few pictures from The Dark Knight that I’d sort of wished I hadn’t looked at. I have no idea how much or how little it gives away but it certainly makes me more and more excited to see Heath Ledgers portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.

So, without further ado:

Yes. That’s the Joker with a machine gun, dressed as a nurse (in a dress!) in a hospital.

I’ve avoided every bit of information I can about the plot of the film (except for the fantastic opening of the film they played before IMAX prints of I Am Legend) and have absoloutly no idea how any of this fits into the story.

To be honest, I really don’t want to know until I see the picture.

Lot’s of Cool Iron Man Photos

I’m sure most of you are on the same page as I am in hoping against hope that the Iron Man movie doesn’t blow. Because of the cast, the trailers, and all the photos that have been released I have developed pretty high expectations for this flick, hopefully not too high…

Anyway, superherohype.com posted several new photos from the movie. None of them appear be spoilers, so you should be safe to view, but as with anything, proceed with caution. The photos are just generic action caps and doesn’t show much more than what we’ve already seen in the trailers. Happy viewing!

Dark Knight Viral (With Pictures) UPDATED!

So, “The Dark Knight” had another of it’s viral marketing campaigns today. At 3:00 pm the “Clown Travel Agency” left a riddle in place for people to figure out and follow. Miraculously, Salt Lake City was listed amongst cities participating in the campaign.

Without a seconds hesitation, some of the other Big Shiny Robots (Kill-Tacular-Tron) helped me figure out the riddle:

Ready to Have a Ball?

A Special Bag of Fun Awaits the First to Claim It,
But You’d Better Strike Fast, There’s
No Time To Spare.

We were thinking the baseball stadium for a minute, but we realized that there were no spares in baseball. (We’re nerds, not jocks.) Bowling Alley.

So we dropped everything at the office and headed to the largest bowling alley closest to downtown:

Here we are… The AMF Bowling alley on 2200 S. State Street in Salt Lake…

Clang! Boom! Steam! and Swank-Mo-Tron Going in….

When we got inside, Dr. Cyborg was told to talk to the lady at the front desk. Dr. Cyborg asked her what was going on with the Clown Travel Agency and we were promptly told that she couldn’t tell us anything. “I’m not aloud to say anything more than you have your clues and you’re in the right place.”

As we looked around, we realized that there were a dozen other fellow Bat-nerds, all on cell-phones trying to get the clues to find the bag of whatever. Some of us assumed it would just be some type of Bat-loot.

We followed suit, jumped on our phones and started asking for help, but we were too late. Some Bat-nerds more enterprising than we deduced that whatever it was was in a locker in the alley. The combination was somewhere on the website and they got a bowling bag.

Inside the bag? A Joker playing card, a cell phone…

…and a Joker bowling ball:

Notice a phone number on the bowling ball?

So did we. The gents that found it used the phone provided in the bag to call the number and then left promptly.

What did it say?

So… They know who we are…How comforting.

(Also, I gave my card to the guys with the ball and they said they’d email me any more updates about what happens with the phone…. So, look for that….)

UPDATE: Now that all the cities have finished their treasure hunt, we’re being asked to go to a website called http://acmesecuritysystems.com/delos, type in the password “Needle” and our email address…. More when I find out what the hell is up, as it is, the server is too busy to process my request….

UPDATE 2: I did what I needed to on the website and Jim Gordon called me.

Check it out:

UPDATE 3: Apparently, the bag contained a note that said not to give the number out…  So, I guess we sort of let the cat out of the bag on that one.  Good thing no one reads this site.

Day of the Dead: 2008

Day of the Dead poster

Sadly, the film has nothing to do with the brilliant 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. Why not take that remake (which did the original justice while still being it’s own fucking entity) and follow it up with a sequel set in the same fictional world? It’s not hard to come up with a somewhat decent plot based off of material that’s already been fucking written for you. Surprisingly Ving Rhames is in the project, though is not reprising his role as police officer Kenneth, but as a military captain. And not surprisingly Mena Suvari (of American Pie fame) had nothing better to do than to star in a crappy remake of a classic Romero zombie flick.Day of the Dead does not look promising and if you wish to see for yourself Rotten Tomatoes has provided a clip for your viewing displeasure. And if you wish to actually subject yourself to, what will undoubtedly make you want to brain yourself, the film is released straight to DVD on April 8th. Or you can just download a leaked copy off of your favorite BitTorrent client.

The U.S.S. Indianapolis

The good folks over at JoBlo were kind enough to post one of the greatest scenes in film history on their website.

I watched it.

And then I watched it again.

And then I decided that I absolutely had to share it with you chuckleheads.

And if you can’t appreciate it, then you’re hardwired for stupidity, and I mean that with all due respect.

Ghostbusters Mignola Style

Since I was a young bot, just resistors, solenoids, and servos, I’ve always enjoyed Ghostbusters. At one point I had even tried to weld a Proton Pack onto my back. When the authorities found out I was trying to attach an unlicensed nuclear accelerator onto my back… well let’s just say it didn’t go over well.

Who wouldn’t want to see something like this? Posted here, Jason has already gotten Egon, Ray, and just recently Winston sculpted. We can only hope and pray someone will pick this up and somehow make them available for the mass market.

But they probably won’t.
