UPDATED: Dark Knight Viral Campaign: Operation Slipknot Update!

Even though none of us bots here at Big Shiny Robot got through to the Gotham Intercontinental Hotel to get a package sent to us, there were obviously people who did. Thebadandugly.com has a report with a few pictures on what was in the package received by those who got through (you can check out their report and pics at the link above) to the Hotel. Apparently, the package contained the following (also pictured above):

-A letter from Joseph Candoloro
-A cell phone & charger
-An itinerary for a flight to various cities depending on the package
-A fake ID
-A bond from Wayne Industries worth between $5,000 and $25,000, depending on the package
-A translation dictionary, depending on where the destination city was, with a Joker card placed inside.

The packages were received at 8 this morning, which is pretty impressive considering the information was all given just yesterday afternoon. I guess the flight itineraries are dated for today, so hopefully we’ll have another update later on this after. I’ll keep my sensors up and the Guinness flowing.

UPDATE #1: Also, a new viral site has been found corresponding to the packages: Kinsly Travel. On the right hand side it has a area where you can enter an Airline code and flight number. If you enter the one from the itinerary from the picture on badandugly.com (TCA/1298), it gives you flight information and that it is on time… more to come.

UPDATE #2: Call the number listed on the Kinsly Travel site, it is a recording asking for your name and number… 1866 307 0988

New Hancock Trailer

It’s always exciting to see our favorite super heroes on the big screen, from Spidey to Superman, from Batman to Hellboy, seeing our childhood heroes come to “life” is usually pretty fun.

Something that, at lease for me, that is equally exciting, is seeing original superhero creations in a movie. Hancock is one that has peaked my interest after catching the new trailer today. Now, granted his powers are nothing new, but it’s the story that intrigues me. Essentially Hancock is what looks like an alcoholic, anti-social, hobo of a superhero that has no regard for the environment or people around him.

Of course, that looks like it all changes, but what would a movie be without character development. I can see this movie being pretty decent (pending any crappy sequals, cross your fingers for a stand-alone) and I think it will most definately be fun summer movie to check out.

Check out the tailer above (obviously)

Dark Knight Viral Marketing: Foiled Again

Once again, the BSR crew is five minutes late to the party. Swank-mo-tron forwarded me an e-mail from Jim Gordon:

OK friend, you’re up to bat now. You have yourself a new assignment: Operation Slipknot.

Basically there are seven dirty cops working for GCPD. They were all supposed to receive a package at the Gotham Intercontinental Hotel. Jim wants you to call the hotel and convince them you are one of the seven dirty cops and have the hotel forward the package on to you. On the website was this note:

By the time I had read all of this, there was one name left: Jon Rosenthal. I called the number for the hotel’s concierge. The phone rang once and then the operator spit back at me, “We’re sorry, but all circuits are busy.” Obviously we had just missed the boat. I called a few dozen more times to receive the same message. Back at my desk I reloaded the page to see that all the cops had a package en route.

About ten minutes later I tried the number again. I snooty man on a recorded message tells me that no one is available to answer the phone, and to please try back later. Damn.

The Spirit Teaser Trailer

For those fans of Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) or Will Eisner will know what this is all about. For the rest of you meatbags out there, shame on you. Check it out here.

Decision 08′

You’ve likely heard about a Uwe Boll petition circulating the internet over the past few months.

If not, then read this.

Or watch this.

Then sign this.

Your decision could effect between 4-5,000 people with really bad taste in everything.

I have yet to see any of his movies and probably never will, but the idea that a democratic power could snuff out just on hack is just an exciting prospect. Maybe it will catch on.  Anyone for a Paul W.S. Anderson or Ron Howard petition?

Karl Rove VS. Harvey Dent

I received a phone call from an election survey today tracking my feelings about Harvey Dent. The questions on the poll, however, were Rovian in nature. (You can read more about real “Karl Rove” sorts of push polls here.)

Harvey Dent’s opponents took this play directly out of the Republican play book. It starts with an innocuous enough question, “How do you feel about Harvey Dent?”

And then each question gets slightly more absurd. “If you knew Harvey Dent had ties to criminals, how would you feel about him then?”

“…hadn’t file income taxes in four years”

“…if he’d been committed to a mental institution?”

And then to wrap it up, they ask once more how you feel about Harvey Dent.

The scariest thing about this poll is that it’s a solid case of art imitating life. The scarier part of that? That shit like this works on real people about real people.

Don’t believe me? Take the poll yourself. Call (877) 777-6197

(Also, why the hell hasn’t Marvel started any of this with Hulk and/or Wolverine? And wouldn’t a Hulk/Wolverine movie be rad?)

Cap America Movie? Young X-Men Movie? – Zak Penn Interview

comicmix.com   has posted an extensive interview they did with Zak Penn. If you don’t know who Zak Penn is, he is responsible for the scripts for X2, X3, The Mask of Zorro, Men in Black, F4, and yet to be release Incredible Hulk, among several others. Love or Hate his scripts, Like or Loathe the man, he is a pretty big force in the movie industry right now and is highly involved with a lot of comic book related material. In the interview he talks about scripts for Captain America, Avengers, and a concept for a young X-Men script. You can check out the full interview here. Here’s a little clip:

CMix: Do you have anything to do with the other movies? Captain America for example?
ZP: I’m attached to it. I’m also supposed to write and direct one of the X-Men spin-off movies for Fox, but that’s not a Marvel film. It’s not a pure Marvel movie. It’s a Fox thing.

CMix: One of the X-Men spin-off movies?  Any one in particular?
ZP: Yeah, it’s like a young X-Men.  It’s a pretty cool idea, actually.  I can’t sell you the whole idea, but it involves a younger group of X-Men at the beginning.

CMix: You mean, like an X-Men: First Class kind of thing?
ZP: It is a little bit like that.  I don’t want to give away the concept of it, but it is a good idea. It is a little bit more of getting back to the classic X-Men.  Some of the complaints we’ve talked about, it would address those directly.

CMix: Will it be all Wolverine’s story?
ZP: Right, well that’s the thing.  It wouldn’t involve Wolverine.

Hit the link above to check out the whole interview, it’s certainly worth the read.

Out Today on DVD 4/15

Today is a big day for film lovers.

First: Sidney Lumet’s bloody brilliant Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. This film hit me between the eyes with both barrels and is as good as his heyday in the 70s (Serpico, Network and Dog Day Afternoon). Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Albert Finney, Ethan Hawke and a repeatedly topless Marisa Tomei headline an amazing cast with a fantastic script crafted by one of the best directors of any generation. This is definitely one I’m picking up and certainly one you should, too.

Here’s a review of Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.

Second place is a tie between two David Lean masterpieces re-released on DVD: Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia. Two of my favorite movies ever. And for nerd credibility? Both films feature Alec Guinness. If you haven’t watched either of these movies, you’re missing out. If you haven’t even heard of them, you’re a prime case for post-natal abortion.

3 movies to avoid this week at all costs: AvP: Requiem, Dungeon Siege and Juno.

See you next week, when I’ll tell you how great The Orphanage is.
