Even if you’re not a geek there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve heard about Comic Con happening this weekend. If you happen to be a parent and have young kids you might be thinking that it could be fun to head into Salt Lake and enjoy the con as a family. The good news is that you’d be right.
Salt Lake Comic Con’s success in September 2013 proved that we like to do things that are fun for the whole family. Because of this “Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience” will have a “KidCon” Pavilion that will be geared to a younger audience.
This is a place that kids can go for arts and crafts or a place to escape from the huge crowds of people. Dan Farr, co-founder of the con, said “We don’t want the impression that we have KidCon there for everything else to become less kid-friendly…it’s just to have an area where they can go and spend a little more time with their kids.” He did make it clear that KidCon is not to be used as a baby-sitting service. So if you were hoping to ditch your kids you’re out of luck.
KidCon is going to have a lot of different events going on all three days. You can find a list of them here. Farr said that he might try to pull some guest stars at the convention over to the KidCon area for photo and signing opportunities. I think it would be safe to assume that these autographs will cost money just like they do in the other parts of the con but who knows.
Farr went on to say in September they had a lot of kids under the age of 10 come with their families and “the idea of providing something for them is exciting…that’s really the reality of it. We think kids will have a good time.”
