There have been rumors that CW has wanted to spinoff another series from “The Flash” or “Arrow,” and sooner rather than later. The rumors have been about Firestorm or Atom, and although both are played by interesting and likable actors, (Robbie Amell and Brandon Routh), I don’t see either of them carrying an entire series. So CW is doing something different.
The series is going to be a team-up series. Not focused on one hero, but either on a team, or a rotation of characters, or some other format. There’s a longrunning DC Comics book called “The Brave and the Bold” that was just different heroes teaming up each month, sometimes lasting together for several issues in an arc, sometimes in a single issue. It will be interesting to see how CW approaches this.
While details are still forthcoming, the names that have been mentioned include Victor Garber (Dr. Stein of Firestorm), Brandon Routh (Atom), and more interesting, Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold) and Caity Lotz (Canary). Those last two are a villain and someone dead, although with both time travel and this team’s love of flashbacks, there would be room for the Canary to be back in action again. Lotz could also be playing an entirely different character, so mull that over for a while.
The report on Deadline also indicates that there will be three “major DC Comics characters never seen on television before,” so that could be cool. CW wants this as early as a midseason premiere, so we should be getting a lot of news on this front, sooner rather than later.
