Writer Mike Mignola’s fantastical horror world has been spawning great stories for 20 years. Alongside talented co-writer John Arcudi and artist Tonci Zonjic, Mignola is set to continue the tales of Lobster Johnson in another miniseries starring the title character. John Arcudi, who is best known for his work on “B.P.R.D.”, is often a co-writer with Mignola. His recent work with Monkey Brain Comics on the digital title “Real West #1” was a favorite of mine from 2013 but I’m always all-in for Arcudi’s work in Mignola’s world.
For my money though, even with an all-star writing cast, this series is exciting because of Tonci Zonjic. Zonjic has penciled one of my recent favorites “Where is Jake Ellis?” and has been a recent cover artist on the Lobster Johnson mini-series “A Scent of Lotus” and Lobster Johnson one-shot “The Prayer of Neferu” from 2013. His strong lines and bold use of action are balanced between plot setting and action packed panels. The writing was on the wall to pick Tonci as the artist for an upcoming Lobster comic and that time has finally come.
Expect to see “Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster” issue one on stands this February. Continue past the solicit for some amazing preview art. If you agree or disagree with my feelings on Tonci Zonjic, let me know in the comments below or on Twitter @MarkAvo.
