There are pros and cons to traveling for work. Weeks like this trip, when my most-anticipated game of 2014, “inFamous: Second Son,” is just begging to be played at home, it all feels like cons. But that doesn’t stop the news and no one needs to focus on my negativity, least of all me.
This might be an obscure one for some of you, but a certain segment of gamers will be thrilled. A new “Toy Soldiers” game is in the works. The franchise has been idle since 2011’s “Toy Soldiers: Cold War.” Signal Studios has acquired the rights from Microsoft, meaning the new title will be coming to XB1 and PS4. More details will be coming later this year, and Signal has said they have a “rather large publisher” attached to the project.
A few more “Batman Arkham Knight” villains have been shown over at Game Informer. This confirms what you probably expect, that being the presence of Two-Face, Riddler, and Penguin being included in the trilogy’s final act. Here’s a tease, but you can find more by following the link to GI’s original story.
You knew we were getting another one, but Ubisoft has confirmed the upcoming “Assassin’s Creed: Unity.” As had already been guessed previously, this edition will be set in the 18th century French Revolution. You’ll play as Arno, though very little is known about him yet. Seeing the recent titles in the franchise, he may not even be an Assassin. Also, the name “Unity” is already piquing my interest about what the story may hold. What is being unified? Perhaps the Templars and the Assassins? In order to learn more, you will need a next-gen console. A “last-gen” game in the franchise is coming, but it’s code-named “Comet” and is not a downport of this game. No confirmed date, but “Holiday 2014” is the expectation.
Have you been enjoying “OlliOlli” on PS Vita? No? Oh, you don’t have a Vita. Well, you should fix that, but if that’s not in the cards then I have good news. The Vita-exclusivity is ending in Summer and you’ll be able to play on PS3 and PS4 soon after. Roll7 is teaming with Blitworks to create the port and already have a playable version on PS4.
Speaking of PS4 ports, the ultra-violent “Hotline Miami” is coming. The better news? It’s cross-buy. If you own it on Vita or PS3 (and I believe it was free from PS Plus recently) you’ll own it at release on next-gen. The upcoming sequel, “Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number,” will also be cross-buy on PS4 and Vita when it releases.
That’s all for this week’s early edition. Please return on Friday for more updates from throughout the week.
