The Getaway Bundle: Indie Royale’s got a brand new bag

IndieRoyal’s new bundle puts Shattered Horizons in the headliner spot, and that alone is reason enough to pick this one up. Also included in this bundle: Analogue: A Hate Story, Da New Guys, Super Amazing Wagon Adventure, Waves, MiniFlake, and for those who pay more than $8 IndieRoyal is throwing in a chiptune mix called Handheld Heroes Volume One. Since Shattered Horizons alone is probably worth $8, this whole bundle is an absolute steal. Of course, as with any bundle, if you’re feeling generous and want to support your indie dev brethren, you can always up your contribution as high as you like.

Games List

  • Shattered Horizons
  • Analogue: A Hate Story
  • Da New Guys
  • Super Amazing Wagon Adventure
  • Waves
  • MiniFlake

If you’re unfamiliar with it, Shattered Horizons is a team-based deathmatch that takes place in a very novel setting: zero-gravity, open space. The moon blew up at some point, so near-Earth space is chock full of space junk and space rocks, and I guess this made everyone want to kill each other? In any case, you’ll hop-float-fly around between pieces of space debris and mini-asteroids while trying to take out the opposing team, and it is a blast. Be sure to check out the system requirements on this one, though, because I’ve heard a lot of folks have trouble getting it to run properly on their rig. Shattered Horizons is also definitely not for anyone who gets even occasional motion sickness from FPS games, the zero-g, multi-dimensional gameplay can be really disorienting at times, but that’s also part of what makes the game so fun–assuming of course that it won’t nauseate you.

I haven’t gotten my hands on the other games just yet, but I’ll return soon with mini-reviews for your reading and purchase-considering pleasure. Here’s what I do know:

Analogue: A Hate Story is about a multi-generational space ship that never made its destination. It’s less of a game, per se, and more of an interactive storytelling experience, you interact with the computer system and read old letters and logs from the long-dead crew and slowly unravel the mystery of what happened on the ship. From what I hear it can be kind of depressing, but an interesting stab at interactivity in narrative that’s worth checking out.

Da New Guys is a point-and-click style adventure game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, looks like it was created in Flash, and seems like it’ll be pretty funny and self-referential.

Super Amazing Wagon Adventure is a parody on an old game, specifically Oregon Trail which you probably played the hell out of if you are anywhere between early twenties and early thirties. But this time, there’s a ton of gunfire and dodging of bullets and things of that nature. Also there are giant ants and guys on carriages with Gatling guns and zombies and, of course, buffalo slaughter. It looks really fun.

Waves looks like a solid twin-stick bullet-hell game. The visuals look gorgeous, and if the trailer is anything to go by, the music will be great too.

MiniFlake is an 8-bit, Commodore 64-style dungeon crawler. Can’t say I’m too excited about this one, but I may be pleasantly surprised. Watching the trailer, I couldn’t help thinking that I’d rather just go play some Desktop Dungeons instead.
