Review: Overlord II

Overlord 2 looks cheesy, gimmicky, and well…. childish at first glance.  So like any dignified productive member of society, I picked it up.  And running the opening cinematic the game is just that.  You’re a small child who nobody understands, your shadowy face and wierd magical lightning powers make you an easy target for the other children to pick on.  And they become an easy target for you to electrocute, torment, blow up, and steal their clothes. That’s right folks steal their clothes.  After dressing up my minions as children and ruining the towns Christmas festival by igniting barrages of fireworks into their buildings, you are quickly swept away into the underworld to be raised into an adult and trained.  And then the game gets twisted…  Your first training mission is collecting life-force from forest creatures, the collecting is done by killing them… and the creatures happen to be baby seals..  You can imagine my evil delight as I smashed them with my giant evil hammer and listened to them squeal in pain.   Occasionally sending minions out to kill off the ones that tried to scoot away.

I’ll leave the rest of the story to discovery, however,  the voice overs are mediocre, the graphics are beautiful, the story and overall ideal behind the game is fantastic.  I can see the combat becoming pretty repetitive with the right trigger being used to send your minions at whatever your malicious character is facing. B recalling them, and x swinging your axe. Wash, rinse, repeat.  The goofy story and twisted feel should keep you held in enough to finish the game with great joy.

Overall I say 7/10 buy it used, and live the evil dream.
