Ittle Dew by Ludosity Games is a little something special in the mobile space. Playing as a shipwrecked adventurer, you are sent on a Zelda reminiscent fetch quests in order to earn enough coin to buy a raft from the shopkeeper, who also happens to be a pirate. Through about 3 hours of clever puzzle solving and zany boss fights the crew at Ludosity has captured the essence of the genre perfectly. It was also impressive to have such responsive touch screen controls, when generally the on screen d pad is near impossible to use accurately.
While heading through the dungeon to collect coinage to purchase the latest weapon, the game doesn’t just leave you to fetch cash and collect. Instead the pirate shop keep, who seems hell bent on making your Island experience as challenging as possible then takes your money and launches you into a dungeon that contains the item you need. The dungeon tests your puzzle solving mettle and teaches you to creatively combine the different tools. Once you’ve completed a segment you are sent to a field of teleporters that you see above, it was a good way to track progress and a cheap way to navigate the world.

While the story for Ittle Dew is endlessly sarcastic, and definitely limited in its writing the gameplay and puzzling more than makes up for it. Every conversation with the enemy or of the character and his drunken flying fox thingy had me giggling at every turn. Blend that with battles of the “witchiest witch” and the emo zombie and you know you’re in for a treat.
