Machinima has released yet another series of gaming inspired fan films through their “Machinima Prime” channel. The first film hitting is Fallout Nuka Break – Red Star. This is far from small budget, generally, when I think fan fiction or fan film I imagine something spun by high schol children in a classroom. The costumes, acting, and special effects definitely say otherwise in this set. Using artwork and scenery the creators do a great job tying the film to the fallout series, there’s even a scene where the history of “the red star” is explained using still motion in the same style as the Fallout’s “Pip Boy”. If you’re somebody who is even remotely familiar with Fallout this film is easy to dive into with a compelling story and solid cinematography. One moment in the film is a touch cheesy (wait for the battle against the giant green monster). But considering the genre it is still an impressive feat to see accomplished.
Oh, that green monster, sluggish yet powerful. |
Sitting at a quick 24 minutes “Red Star” is a great tie in to the world of Fallout, and a lot of fun to watch. I loved the lead character played by Cameron Diskin. His cigarette smoking, strong silent persona blends well with the fact that he’s been wandering the wastes alone. I’ll stop ranting and simply tell you to watch this. You’re trying to avoid work anyway, I know what you do on a Friday.
