I love the O.G. Dungeon Keeper, I loved the Deeper Dungeon expansion. I loved Dungeon Keeper 2 as well. For years and years I’ve been hoping they would finally make another again. I mean, the idea is popular enough that other companies are making similar ones. There are people who would want the game. There are people ready to buy the game, that’s never really the question. If they simply took the code for the original and threw it through say a java converter, then used the new assets, they wouldn’t have had more than say a few months of work on their hands. Sell it for whatever you want. People will pay to have that nostalgic feel at their fingertips. I digress, as I am sure it can’t all be that simple. You can’t just toss an old game through a converter to make it “current” – or can you?
Back and better than ever, Kalypso and RealmForge Studios return with the upcoming strategy/simulation/dungeon management sure to be blockbuster, Dungeons 4.
Interesting how this new installment of the franchise is going to be different from the previous games. Dungeons 1 was an experiment with huge RPG focus, Dungeons 2 was classic Dungeon Keeper successor with a plot of Evil who loses the war against Good and step by step started conquering the world again, Dungeons 3 came with a lot of great gameplay improvements and all about Thalya. So, what will be the focus of Dungeons 4?
From the site:
Dungeons 4 is a wholesome Dungeon management game where unicorns mingle among the lush trees; the good side has the high ground and the dark side on Hill Doom has not lived happily after. Oh, come on, which troll has changed the script again? *cough* In Dungeons 4, everything is EVIL – again! But everything is now bigger, better, and with even more dynamic Evilness™ – all while keeping the spirit of its predecessor with the return of the Absolute Evil and its trusted *cough* servant, the Dark Elf Thalya. You know the drill: gather your evilness, unleash it upon the not-so-evil overworld, secure your fabulously evil Dungeon and bathe in evil laughter while the Overworlders perish. There’s no way some annoying little creatures named dwarves will stand in your way and raid your Dungeon! I mean, what? Get thee gone from my Dungeon, thou gold-grubbing pests.
Dungeons 4 boasts a bunch of new modes, including the ability to play the game co-op with a friend. Also, the maps are MASSIVE now – over four times the size of the previous installment. Usually, when sequels get this deep in numbers of its lifetime you expect it to be running on auto-pilot. However, Dungeons looks really promising. Extra bonus, It’s on Game Pass too, no reason not to try it out.
Dungeons 4 will emerge from the dark on November 9 this year when the title will be available with Xbox Game Pass for console and PC and will be released on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and PlayStation 5.
