It looks like FOX’s upcoming TV series “Gotham” is planning on giving us Batman after all, sort of. The series will give us some insight into what happened with a young Bruce Wayne after his parent’s death. According to TV show auditions a 10-year-old Bruce Wayne is among the roles that are now being cast as series regulars. It will be interesting to see a devastated boy coming to grips with what happened to his parents, while Alfred tries to comfort and raise the young hero before he sets out to become The Dark Knight.
“Gotham” will explore the origin story of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that we all know and love from Batmans’ rogues gallery. The pilot episode will introduce us to a young rookie from Gotham City PD named James Gordon as he investigates the double murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne.
I am getting so excited for this series and I hope that the investigation isn’t over too quickly. Let Joe Chill (the man responsible for killing the Waynes) wander free for a while before he’s caught. Also please, please introduce Leslie Thompkins. A physician and social worker who gives Bruce a shoulder to cry on. She grows so close to Bruce in the comics that she is one of the few people in Gotham City that knows he is Batman, and can even put him in his place when he needs it. She also is romantically involved with Alfred every now and again so that would be a good love story other than Gordon’s.

From DC comics and their database we know that Bruce was about 14 when he started his global journey that would eventually result in him coming back to Gotham City to don the cape and cowl. Which means that the series, if it is popular, gives us at least 4 seasons of Bruce before leaves. With the show focusing mainly on Gordon this might be a moot point but is still worth thinking about.
The series is set to air in 2014
