This Week in [adult swim] – Apr 25, 2010 edition

Greetings [adult swim] aficionados!

My apologies for missing a few weeks– unfortunately my commitments revolving around Earth Day got in the way of my cartoon watching.  But I return with great news and a few reviews of amazing episodes you do not want to miss.

First, put this on your calendars: The Boondocks returns next Sunday, May 2nd, for all your whitey-hatin’ needs.  Season 1 of this show, based on Aaron Macgruder’s comic of the same name, was fantastic.  Season 2 was a little lackluster and seemed rushed, so I was glad to hear Macgruder was taking a hiatus. But now he returns with “It’s a Black President, Huey Freeman!”, and hopefully he brings the funny back.  I also hope he is bringing back A Pimp Named Slickback and the government agent who stalks Huey Freeman voiced by John McGinley.  Set your DVRS, homies!  11:30pm ET

“>Oh, and here’s a clip of Thugnificent and will.i.am talking about how they want to make gay love to Barack Obama.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force – This week’s episode, Kiper Hair System, featured Larry Miller (the comedian and actor, not the late-car dealership-movie theater chain-Utah Jazz basketball franchise owner) selling a patented hair system.  He shows Carl what his life would be like if he had hair, and then Carl sets about ruining this idyllic life.  Larry Miller grows impatient and runs off to compulsively gamble.  And the Cybernetic Ghost of christmas Past from the Future shows up. This is one of the funniest episodes of ATHF in a long time.  I’m not erasing it from my DVR because I want to watch it again.  Seriously.  It’s that good.  But if I tell you more it will ruin many of the jokes.  3 1/2 stars.

And remember: Episode 100 of ATHF comes next Sunday night!  Be there!

Tim and Eric – Season Cinco continues with “Green Machine”, and this episode is one long infomercial for the amazing Cinco product, the Tairy Green Machine, a home theater system that contains all of the appearances of superstar Tairy Green (an incredible Zach Galifianakis).  This includes “Little Dancin’ Man” which features lots of Zack in a unitard dancing– and in the big book of comedy, there is little funnier than overweight people who are spry either dancing or doing other athletic activities, especially if they’re actually really good at them (ie, the classic John Belushi “Little Chocolate Donuts” sketch or Chris Farley trying out for Chippendales).  Oh, and Levar Burton shows up to help Little Dancing Man recover from a tragic accident.  And there’s a Richard Marx music video. And a spinoff movie called “Little Danson Man” where Ted Danson is shrunk down to 11 inches- featuring not only Danson in a great performance as himself, David Cross…..and, oh, a music video by Peter Cetera.  It’s probably the best thing in the episode. Coin toss between Cetera and Levar Burton.  4 stars!!!  Watch this!!!

This week in syndication

Why oh why is “The PJs” still on!?!! </rant>

Tuesday, one of your episodes of King of the Hill is “That’s What She Said”, (10pm ET) featuring a wise-cracking Strickland Propane employee voiced by Ben Stiller.

Stick around later to 1:15 am ET (technically Wed morning) for The Drinky Crow Show episode “The Elephant Man”, featuring the voice of Jonathan Slavin, who you may remember from Better Off Ted or Andy Richter Controls the Universe, or maybe not since barely anyone watched those shows.  In any case, this features some great banter like “Look, when I call a phone sex hotline, I don’t want to be talked out of phone sex.  When I call a suicide hotline, I want tips for how to commit suicide!!!”

Your Friday episode of American Dad (11:30 ET) was last week’s “Merlot Down Dirty Shame,” and if you’re not watching this show but are watching Family Guy and The Cleveland Show…. wtf is wrong with you?  Watch this!!!  Right after is the repeat of tonight’s Aqua Teen, then an episode of Clerks (woefully underrated) and The Mighty Boosh.  If you don’t have anything else going on Friday night, I highly suggest a night of adult swim…. or at least putting it on in the background of your poker game or whatever….

Until next week, give me cartoons or give me death!
