Previous rumors indicated that Donal Logue would strap on a Gotham PD badge as Commissioner Gordon but those rumors were pretty quickly squashed, and, today Variety is reporting that Ben McKenzie has locked down the role in FOX’s upcoming Batman prequel.
The series will follow a young commissioner Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne. There are also rumors of young villains getting origin stories in the series, including the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penguin.
This won’t be McKenzie’s first role in police uniform; he played Officer Ben Sherman in “Southland.” He also isn’t new to Gotham city, having provided the voice for Batman/Bruce Wayne in the animated movie “Batman: Year One.”
FOX has bypassed the normal pilot procedure and ordered the show straight to series, it is still in pre-production with no official word on a release date.
