Tonight’s HIMYM tried to be cute and “clever” by writing the whole script in rhyming verse, and while they managed to pull it off, it was also one of the most excruciatingly painful half hours of television I have ever watched.
Full spoilers to follow.
Marshall is on the last leg of his journey to Barney’s wedding, and is doing his best to get Marvin to fall asleep on the crowded and noisy bus. The baby will only nod off if spoken to in rhyme, and since Marshall left the fairy tale book in the rental car, he hastily puts together three stories about Ted, Robin and Barney and recites them in iambic something or other.
You know what, I can’t even really summarize the plot because I’m still reeling from how stupid and horrible this episode was. I’m almost offended that someone actually thought this would pass as even being remotely entertaining. Not only were the stories boring and unfunny, the whole gimmick of making everything rhyme was about the most horrible and irritating thing i’ve ever seen in any medium. I literally started developing a headache only five minutes in, and by the time I got to the preview of next week’s epiosde, I was ready to purposely make myself go deaf. It was obvious that the idea for this episode was a three-in-the-morning decision made by the writers when they were shit hammered and had to have been playing truth or dare. Either that or someone lost a bet.
Whatever it was, this was a waste of my and everyone’s time, and if I’m being honest, you would be much better off watching paint dry or possibly Two Broke Girls. Let’s just forget that this episode ever happened and hope it will be left out of the DVD box set when it comes out.
Seriously, if you haven’t watched it yet, just delete this steaming pile of shit from your DVR and be happy you will never have to subject yourself to it.
2 out of 10. And I’m only giving it a 2 because the Robin story got a smile out of me. Still don’t watch it; go look up “Robin steals and eats a wedding cake” on YouTube instead. You’ll thank me later.
