Let’s face it, the CW is not known for putting out quality shows, and with a track record for running shit like “Dawson’s Creek”, “One Tree Hill”, and “America’s Next Top Whore Slut Bitch Model” you would probably assume that anything that airs on this network is not worth the 60 minutes of your life it would take to watch an episode. I can assure you fellow bots and readers that you would be mistaken, and as proof I offer you “Reaper”.

Reaper follows Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison) as he is given assigments by the Devil himself (Ray Wise) to seek out, capture, and return escaped demons to hell as a Demon Bounty Hunter. “Why would anyone do this?” You might ask. When Sam was young he became terminally ill, and his parents sold his soul to the Devil in return for his clean bill of health and on his 21st birthday, the Devil comes to collect. Sam collects these escaped souls via a “Vessel” provided to him by the Devil, which always appears as a common object (Dirt Devil, Bubbles, Stun Gun, Harpoon Gun, etc.) in which he is to trap the soul, and return it to hell. At first, Sam refuses, but he is told that if he doesn’t do the Devils dirty work, his mother’s soul is forfeit.

Reaper is about a dozen or so episodes in to the first season and a lot has happened, but it’s still a great show to jump into as soon as you can. Sam’s two best friends, Sock (Tyler Labine) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez) being the good friends that they are have agreed to help Sam capture these souls, regardless of the danger. You also have the sexy Missy Peregrym playing Sam’s love interest, Andi.

From the description, the show may sound like a drama, but I assure you it’s not. It is probably one of the funniest live-action shows on television right now. Tyler Labine is the main source of comedy as Sock, the best friend who is more all about hunting the demons than Sam, the actual Demon Hunter. They all devise funny and creative ways to capture the souls all the while trying to retain their jobs at the local Home Depot-esque store.

Now, I am by no means a professional at reviews, so if none of what I have said has sold you, this should. Kevin Smith is involved with the show. He directed the pilot episode (which was fantastic), and has stayed on for every episode since as Creative Consultant. I promise you, if you watch this show you will not be disappointed and you will definately notice Kevin Smith’s influence on the show.
