BBC One has released a trailer for their adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s post-Potter novel, “The Casual Vacancy.”
The short clip does a wonderful job giving prelude to the drama, heartache, and suspense that will surely play out in the three part miniseries. We’re also treated to a familiar face – Michael Gambon plays patriach to the Mollison family, a central group of characters in this story of the truth of small town life. Class wars, family secrets, and the terrors of being an outcast all come to light in this beautifully woven story.
If you haven’t read the book, I highly endorse giving it a go. It’s quite a turn from the magic of Hogwarts (and definitely not for wee ones), and is an incredibly important work that looks at the different ways values can be assigned and assessed in a small town.
The first installment will air on BBC One on February 15, but no date has been set for American audiences.
