Fuller and Co. announced a release date for the DVD/Blu-ray/Digital release of the inaugural season of this spectacularly dark drama. If you missed the shows the first time around, you only have to wait until September 24 to get your hands on all 13 episodes.
“Hannibal,” though set in present day, tells the stories of a pre-“Red Dragon” Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham. It’s brought to us via Bryan Fuller, who embraces his dark side with open arms this time around, with all the beautiful set and camera work of his past outings and none of the… well… happy. The show, a mid season debut, was an immediate runaway hit among critics and the quickly christianed “fannibals.”
Details of the release were announced today at SDCC. DVD and Blu-ray will arrive at $39.97 and $39.98, respectively. It will include commentary by star Hugh Dancy and creator Fuller “and more” (which leads me to guess probably no Mikkelsen), two featurettes, and – seriously – a gag reel. You guys. I cannot count the ways in which I love gag reels.
Also worth special mention, I think, is that the episode count is 13. The “missing” episode, which Fuller himself requested to be pulled due to some uncanny similarities to current-at-the-time events, will be included in it’s uncannibalized glory.
You knew there was going to be at least one pun in this article, right?
