It’s happening. It’s really happening. “The X-Files” will return for a six episode limited series with original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, helmed by creator Chris Carter.
Big Shiny Robot previously reported that there were “talks,” and people and networks were “on board,” and lots of lingo-buzzword rumors were happening. But Hollywood Reporter brings us the news today that filming will start this summer, and a premiere date will be announced at a later time.
The original show ran for nine seasons and two theatrical releases. The merit of the two final seasons of the show remains hotly debated, but I think we can all agree that the final “X-Files” movie was not an ideal farewell to this universe. I didn’t hate the film, for the record. I thought it would have made a great two-part episode. But it definitely left me hanging.
Well I shall hang no more! No word yet on the return of other cast members, or whether or not the show will be able to borrow some of the busy alumni of its writers’ room. Rest assured we at the Shiny will keep you posted.
You know, if you had told younger me at any point in the past that: A – Episode VII will be filmed with original cast members and B – Mulder and Scully will return to TV, I wouldn’t have even laughed. I would have looked you dead cold in the eye and told you that you were an unfunny monster to taunt me like that.
Well I’ll be damned, because 2015 seems to be comin’ up Millhouse!
