FOX was busy last night as they went about cleaning up their lineup. So what was canceled?
The picture shows the one that I am saddest about, Sophomore show Human Target has officially been canceled. This one didn’t come as a surprise since FOX didn’t seem to like it from the beginning, they did decide to give it a second season but as the season went on they almost randomly appeared at different holes in the FOX schedule. If you hadn’t seen it, the show was based on the comic book of the same name and it had some of my favorite tv actors including Mark Valley (Boston Legal), Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies) and Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen). Both seasons were near the top of my list of best seasons each year but alas it is no more.
Lie To Me is the oldest show being canceled as it’s in it’s third year but this one is also not surprising as it’s been bounced around constantly in it’s last two seasons. I almost thought it would constantly be renewed to just be a seat filler show for when they needed something new. This one was about Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) an expert on interpreting microexpressions and using his knowledge of the human face to solve crimes. I had watched most if not all of the series and I had just started to notice people starting to talk about the show, just a bit too late. The show was very formulaic and it would often have a bit of a republican lean to the pictures of people they would show with the same downtrodden emotions. Also the main character started rather personable but then in later seasons became somewhat crazy showing that the producers weren’t happy with the show overall.
The Chicago Code came on as a midseason replacement and was by the creator of “The Shield” Shawn Ryan. This is one show which I hadn’t actually been watching but I had heard good things. Two more episodes are set to air on May 16th and the series finale on May 23rd.
Traffic Light was the midseason replacement for Running Wilde but it didn’t fair well either. The series finale will air on May 17th. I had been watching this one but it wasn’t very good. Basically it was a comedy about 3 friends and their wives and girlfriends and how they would talk to each other on cell phone systems inside the cars they drove. The one hope I had for the show was it had one of my favorite British actors Kris Marshall but even he couldn’t take the very weird concept anywhere.
Finally “Breaking In” is a comedy which has only lasted 7 episodes before being canceled even though it was regularly doing about 7.0 ratings. It was a strange comedy about a team of really good hackers and thieves who were contracted to break into security systems to find the faults. This one had Bret Harrison who seems to know what it’s like to be canceled, as well as Christian Slater and guest appearances from Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) and Trevor Moore (The Whitest Kids You Know). I’ve watched all the episodes so far and really didn’t know what to think of it. It had people I sorta liked and a premise I sorta liked and it did it sorta well. So I guess I’m sorta sad and sorta don’t care.
So there you have it, Human Target, The Chicago Code, Lie To Me, Breaking In and Traffic Light were all canceled. Are you sad to see any of these go?
