Skins is a US adaptation of a UK series of the same name. It’s on MTV and has been surrounded in controversy. The show is about a group of teenagers who are overly sexual and are on top of their own little world.
The controversy surrounding the show is in it’s use of showing Teenagers using drugs and having casual sex. A group has even brought about a suit of child pornography because of a male “17 year old” character who shows a portion of his bottom in the first episode. Multiple advertisers have dropped from the program as well in light of all the controversy.
The show is pretty light compared to a lot of other television I’ve watched even with it being on cable television. Along with that the show isn’t very good overall. The acting is weird and I don’t believe many of the characters motivations or overall persona’s. They have and show no consequences for any of their actions and in the world they’ve created there really should be.
After watching the four episodes I was told by a friend that I should check out the UK version. I watched the first episode and after doing so became incredibly surprised by the controversy, but I also realized why this show is bad. The UK version has excessive profanity and a bunch of nudity, which is essential to believability in a show about sexual teenagers. It also made me laugh at all the controversy where the first episode of the UK version had a lot of nudity and profanity but the US version only had sexual themes, little to no swearing and a partial backside of one character and it’s labeled by some as an incredibly damaging show against morality.
Anyways, the US version is incredibly lame. The show needs swearing and true sexuality for it to succeed which is why if you want to watch the show just watch the UK version instead.
