It was announced this morning that Jenna-Louise Coleman will be taking over as the new companion for the Doctor starting with this year’s Christmas special. We have found out that 6 episodes of Doctor Who will air this year, including the Christmas special, and 8 will air next year. Revealed last year that Amy (Karen Gillen) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) would be leaving the show in the next series, now we have more details on how that will come about and when the Doctor’s new friend will show up. These tweets were taken from the official Doctor Who twitter as the news Coleman’s arrival was announced this morning:
“I want to get started already” says Jenna. “I’m a huge fan of the show”. Of her favourite companion “Between Billie Piper & Karen Gillan”
“Matt Smith did my audition with me. It was fun and I felt like we were in it together” says Jenna.
Steven: “We saw a lot of brilliant actresses. But Jenna was the only person going faster than Matt – he had to keep up!”
Matt Smith had to keep up? If that is the case and they’re not blowing smoke up our asses I am definitely interested in and already ok with the new companion.
Following this picture of Jenna-Louise Coleman are details regarding Amy and Rory’s departure from the show. It is very spoilery, so don’t proceed if you don’t wanna know.
As announced via twitter Amy and Rory will leave the show in the 5th episode of the series in a final showdown with the Weeping Angels. Showrunner Steven Moffat also said “Not everyone gets out alive, and I mean it this time.” Since the original announcement that the couple would be leaving the show and it would be heartbreaking I have had one theory and I’m standing by it. I believe that Amy is going to die and leave Rory alone. One thing is for certain, it is sure to be a roller coaster of emotions on Doctor Who this year!
