Alex Trebek, host of long-running game show “Jeopardy” was injured during a chase in his San Francisco hotel.
According to SFGate, the 71-year-old game show host was chasing a burglar down the hallway of his hotel when his Achilles tendon ruptured. This (not surprsingly) resulted in a fall, and he bruised his other leg. He is scheduled for surgery on Friday.
He was in San Francisco to host the National Geographic World Championship. In spite of his injuries, he appeared for the event, albeit on crutches.
Trebek has proven to be a tough guy. In 2007, he suffered a minor heart attack, but it did not interfere with his “Jeopardy” duties. And now he’s chasing burglars down hotel hallways! The alleged burglar, Linda Moyers, was taken into police custody and only stolen cash remains missing.
“Jeopardy” is a favorite amongst geeks everywhere. It has been parodied in everything from “Saturday Night Live” to “Animaniacs.” There is also a cute little Wii version of Trebek in the “Jeopardy” game for the Wii console. It’s been a personal dream of mine to appear on the show since my elementary school days, where I battled in Quiz Bowls and similar competitions. Though I have auditioned many times, sadly I’ve never made it onto the program. I do excel at Star Wars trivia, though. If they ever hosted a Star Wars Tournament of Champions, I’d ace that. “Yoda Quotes for $1000, Alex.” Oh! Yay! Yes, please make it a true daily double.
Hmmm. Maybe they should do Geek Week on the show sometime.
