Make Your Own Hasselblad Pinhole Camera

In the digital age a lot of old school stuff is becoming cool again and shooting on film is getting right up there with listening to vinyl. Walk into any Urban Outfitters and there will be a wall full of vinyl and a shelf full of brand new Holga cameras built to specifically produce weird unique pictures like the apps on your phone.

But instead of spending $80 bucks on a plastic camera or picking up a used Hasselblad on ebay from between $300 and $3000 why not make your own. Over at kellyangood.co.uk you can print out a pdf and make a replica Hasselblad. Kelly originally made an amazing looking replica from corrugated cardboard then went through all the work and details to create a downloaded pdf and an instructional video to show you how to do it. Just from watching the video I could see how much work went into this and the detail of making a fully functional paper pinhole camera.

Plus shooting on film is fun and interesting. I love my digital camera and that I can manipulate the image in all kinds of ways on my computer but putting something on film and sitting in a dark room watching it show up is a lot of fun and if you’ve never developed in a darkroom I highly recommend finding a class or something that still does it, shooting film helped me learn a whole lot about photography and correct exposure.

So print yourself off a camera and spend a day shooting with it and see what you can come up with. The best part is getting the film back and seeing what you ended up with. And from a pinhole camera every shot is usually pretty damn interesting.
