PREVIEW: Green Lantern Movie!

Its not much, but Entertainment Tonight has about 30 seconds of footage from their Green Lantern preview they are doing next Tuesday November 16th. And we are bringing it to you! Oh man this makes me so excited for the movie!

TRAILER: Theatrical Clone Wars

You can check StarWars.com for the availability of tickets left for their theatrical showing of the episode of Clone Wars that introduces us to Savage Oppress, Darth Maul’s brother.

As part of the announcement they gave us one of the best trailers yet for this show.

There’s not much for me to say, you really do just need to watch. It’s quite breathtaking. And my guess is the weak spots in season 3 are completely behind us and we’re heading into the most solid territory the show has ever been into.

Watch it. Seriously.

MOVIE TRAILERS! Winnie the Pooh

Does anyone else think that Christopher Robin’s psyche was a little too cut and dry? I mean- what 5 year old boy is THAT in tune with the individual parts of his brain?  …actually, come to think of it- probably every 5 year old boy is…

–GCkOM

I adore the fact that they haven’t done a CGI passover of the original classic animation and renderings I grew up with. I adore the fact that the trailer, without remorse, says “We are going straight from the book on this one”. I adore that the voices don’t sound any different than I recall.

I adore that this movie is coming out.  Come see it with me!

Dark Metropolis – A SyFy Saga

…in the end- that’s all he really has to his name…

Styrofoam sets, really clean CGI, terrible production sound, a female Jesus and dudes with the ‘Force Push’ ability… from the trailer, this is basically what Dark Metroplis (created by the guy who did The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers) looks like it is about.

of course… according to the synopsis, that isn’t at all what it’s about. Who’da thunk?

Mankind has lost a 300-year war against a genetically enhanced race that man created, abused and finally tortured. Now the descendants of that race – known as “Ghen”; control planet Earth. An entire new universe has risen inside the remnants of our world. Humans work the surface as factory slaves in the New World Order, with pockets of resistance carrying on the freedom fight. As rising Ghen politician Crecilius Pryme takes power he urges his people to annihilate the remaining human population unleashing a shocking secret that will change the world forever… In the beginning – man created Ghen…, In the end – Ghen ruled man.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good post-apocalyptic, 500 year in the future venture into the “what if” as much as the next guy- I also love me some nostalgic romps into the MMPR franchises from time to time… you know… as a good laugh. But, come on… this looks like they just gave the Power Rangers a slightly larger budget and a lot less of a concept to work with. Who is their audience here?

I think it is a concept slightly too boring for kids; 8-14 and the execution is a bit too childish for any of those adults; 18-49 still stuck in the nerd world… as for those 15-17 year old’s… well they’re too busy being on the drugs to even care… (or maybe that’s what’ll make them watch it…) I really think the thing that bothers me most about this whole thing is that some of the sets are rather interesting and intriguing and then there is crap like the crap up above. (funny story: the Styrofoam brick door there was the highest quality photo they had available.)

I’ve been watching the ScyFy channel since well before it ceased to be the SciFi channel and I’ve been watching it grow and mature- sure, they still show ultimately awful movies and shows all the time, (let’s be honest, that’s part of the channel’s appeal) but, this is a channel that got behind the new Battlestar Gallactica. This is the channel that has shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13 (which, if you haven’t been watching, you have been missing out).

Why, oh why would they get behind something like this other than it was created by Stewart St. John? (yes… that is his name: bad… ass…)

Who knows… maybe I’ll be ultimately surprised when all is said and done- but it is going to take a lot more than some really talented CGI Artists to make this show watchable.

MOVIE TRAILERS! Kung Fu Panda 2

No words. Just watch.

This is one of those rare, rare, rare times where I let a teaser with little to NO story line slide… why?

Kung Fu staring contest! Go ahead, and see if you can last… I almost didn’t make it!

I loved the first one… it was one of the best movies that came out in ot eight… in fact, its one of the better movies to come out in the past 5 years… so, the concept of a sequel makes me wary/excited.

On one hand, they can ruin my love for the first one by taking the purity of it and using a toilet brush to violate it.

On the OTHER hand, it sounds like the whole team is back on board and the potential for it being better than the first is enough to make me go see it… Let’s wait until the full trailer comes out before I make an official call though.

REVIEW: Secret Origin

This year is the 75th anniversary of DC comics. With it has come special books, variant covers, and toys. But what would an anniversary of this magnitude be without a documentary detailing the history of the longest running comics company around today. Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics is narrated by Ryan Reynolds and takes  a look at DC Comics from its creation in the late 1930’s up to today. Many creators are interviewed in this including Jim Lee, Neal Adams, Denny O’ Neil, Geoff Johns, Neil Gaiman, Gran Morrison, Walt and Louise Simonson, Dan Didio and many others.

The majority of the film and most in depth focus is around the creation of the Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) along with the start of the Silver Age. Past that it touches on other milestones like when Denny O’ Neil and Neal Adams did Green Arrow/Green Lantern and touched on real world problems, the Superman movie by Richard Donner, and the creation of Vertigo. Once you hit the late 80’s it really jumps forward and only touches on a couple of brief events like the Death of Superman and Kingdom Come. All in all I thought this was a really interesting DVD.

My only complaint is I wish it was a little longer so they could have touched on more of the stuff that happened in the 90’s and 00’s. But that is just a minor complaint. I would still recommend checking this out, especially if you are a big fan of DC comics like myself.

Here is a trailer for the movie:

TRAILER – Tron: Legacy

Here it is folks! The final theatrical trailer for Tron: Legacy before its release on December 17th!

Vinnie Jones + Highlander Reboot = ?

Joblo posted this last night, and its definitely an interesting idea. They seem whole heartedly against it, but I liked Vinnie Jones in Snatch, Lock Stock, and he was damn funny as the Juggernaut.  Word is they’re casting him as the Kurgan in the new Highlander Reboot, here’s their take on it.

April Fool’s day gave us our last update on Justin Lin’s HIGHLANDER reboot…today we aren’t so lucky.

Comicbookmovie.com is propagating a rumor that British tough-guy Vinnie Jones is in line to play villain The Kurgan in HIGHLANDER: THE RECKONING, a role originated in 1986 by Clancy Brown. Foolish, right?

IRON MAN scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are at the keys, scripting the story of an Immortal from the highlands of Scotland, once trained by ancient Immortal Ramirez, fighting in modern times against other immortals in a “contest” called the Gathering; a contest whose ultimate end line is that there can be only one.

No word (or rumor even) on who’ll play the two leads, Connor MacLeod (Chris Lambert) and Juan Ramirez (Sean Connery), but feel free to start throwing out some names. Hell, why not bring in a 53 year old Lambert…he’s still alive, right?

..Who could replace Chris Lambert and Sean Connery? Are there any classy Scottish or British gents around that can wield swords? Thoughts below..

Out Today on DVD and Blu-ray 11/09

There are a lot of big releases today, but no bigger than Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. With a Blu-ray, a DVD, and a digital copy (and a free bonus downloadable movie of your choice), there is really no excuse to not buy this. This is one of the best films of the year, hands down. Edgar Wright and his cast nailed the feel and look of the comic book and told a comic-book movie story in the style of a video game the likes of which the world has never seen. On Blu-ray, the sharp colors and fast action pop in a way I haven’t really seen in a Blu-ray. And I found myself watching this over and over and over again, both with and without my kids. This is one of their favorite movies now, too.

It’s infectious and much be watched repeatedly. This is honestly one of those discs, like Star Wars, where I’ll probably own multiple copies because I’ll have worn previous copies out.

This release collects a host of bonus features in addition to the multi-format copies, making it a must buy this week.

(You can read my full review of the film here. And check back tomorrow for interviews with Edgar Wright and Kieran Culkin)

Next on the list is Season Five of Doctor Who. This is Matt Smith’s inaugural season as the Doctor and I couldn’t be more excited to get to it. I’m a recent convert to Dr. Who and am this close to being caught up and this DVD set is going to get me there just in time for the Christmas episode next season.

If you haven’t jumped on the Doctor Who train, trust me, it’s not too late. Start with the first series from 2005 and you’ll be hooked.

DC Animation brings us their newest short this week, Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam. Packaged on a Blu-ray with all the other shorts they’ve included on other releases (The Spectre, Jonah Hex, and Green Arrow) and four handpicked episodes of various DCU shows by Bruce Timm makes this disc a steal at less than $20. Androidika should have a full review soon.

Mystery Science Theatre 3000 fans have reason to rejoice with the release of another box set of films. This one includes Ed Wood’s classic “Bride of the Monster” whose financing was chronicled in Tim Burton’s best film (Ed Wood). They’re just as funny as you remember and this set comes with an action figure.

For all of you cinephiles out there, Cary Grant’s Arsenic and Old Lace is being rereleased today as well. There are few finer examples of comedy film ever made and I suggest you pick it up.

The Sean Connery/Michael Caine adventure classic The Man Who Would Be King is being re-released again today as well. This is welcome news since my originally DVD is double sided. Much like a laserdisc, you have to flip it mid-film. It’s not even that long of a movie. It is incredible, though, and any fan of adventure films, Sean Connery, or Michael Caine should pick up this John Huston classic.

The last movie on the list today is the Blu-ray release of the original (superior) Ocean’s 11, starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the rest of the Rat Pack. This is a great film and works a lot better than the Soderbergh remake. It’s well worth picking up.

No MJ in Spider-Man Reboot?

Lost in all the bits about the possibilities of Sally Field and Martin Sheen being cast as Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot was this little nugget of rumor/information from The Wrap:

Meanwhile, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap that Mary Jane Watson will not appear in the film after all, as the character is not currently featured in James Vanderbilt’s screenplay, and apparently never was.

Back in September, Deal Central reported that Mary Jane would appear in the new “Spider-Man,” as the script featured two love interests competing for the affections Peter Parker. However, that wasn’t quite true.

Evidently, there had been some discussions about Emma Stone playing red-haired MJ, but once she was cast as Gwen Stacy, the filmmakers decided to trust their instincts and stick with one love interest.

Personally, I would love for them to just stick to the Gwen Stacy/Peter Parker romance for this first film. I’m not sure if they have plans to kill her off in future movies, but I always thought her death was just as big of an impact in forming Peter’s life as Uncle Ben’s. To build this up appropriately, I would really like to see them spend a whole movie and a half or so building up their relationship before even introducing Mary Jane. No matter their plans with her, I’m glad we finally have a film focusing on a different love interest for Peter and I hope they do the character justice with Emma Stone.
