MOVIE TRAILERS! “Red Riding Hood”

The idea of this film sickens me a little bit- especially considering who directed it… but Gary Oldman is a light at the end of the tunnel… so is Amanda Seyfried, I like her. But…

Ya… so- the use of color is quite vibrant and eye catching… but… as I was watching it, I felt that something was wrong… that something was incredibly off about it… there was something incredibly fake about the piece (and I don’t mean in the sense that its about Little Red Riding Hood.) There was something false about the cohesiveness of the people on screen- something faux about what they were saying and the way they were acting… I couldn’t understand what was so askew about this whole thing… then…

…then it said the whole “From the director of…” bit. I turned it off.  At THAT point- I reloaded the page and tried again- thinking I could look past the previous directorial works- it was impossible… the trailer immediately went from being “A movie that might not suck” into” “All I can see is sparkly vampires and terribly fake romantic connections.” All my previous questions were instantly answered.

Gary Oldman… can you carry the entire weight of a film just by being you… or is it actually possible for you to be involved in something as wrong as I expect this to be?  I don’t know- I have hopes that a Riding Hood piece would come out… but this just seems convoluted with another bestiality love story…

MOVIE TRAILERS! “Your Highness”

One movie I would have never expected to say “I can’t WAIT for this to come out!” about. Seriously. But…

warning, this one is Red Banded… if you care about that sort of thing.

David Gordon Greene’s: Your Highness

I laughed through the entire trailer… rapid fire jokes and humor designed to poke fun of the whole, fantasy epic genre, oh- and pot smoking with a puppet.

My favorite part about the whole thing was the slew of American actors doing (poor) British accents. Swank-mo-tron’s favorite part was Natalie Portman’s behind. All in all- it looks like it is going to be one balls out good time! I can honestly say this looks like the most EPIC comedy ever to be produced. The scope of it looks unreal for something from the group that made Pineapple Express.

MOVIE TRAILERS! “Cowboys & Aliens”

Cowboys & Aliens

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell(my favorite actor of all time), Olivia Wilde (number 4 on my top ten remember?) and a production team including Iron Man’s Jon Favreau, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard?  COME ON! If that is all you had told me about this film- I’d be interested in watching the damn thing… But then you add this teaser trailer and… well… aside from the glaringly simple title (something that seems to just work with this concept) I’m giddy with anticipation. Giddy. Giddy-up!

Here’s the thing- Jon Favreau does very well with high concept action pieces… very well indeed. I’ll just say, I have very high hopes for this. The teaser is cut in a fairly unique fashion- giving us story, without giving anything away… I mean… all I know is that Daniel Craig has a super bracelet and can shoot down UFO’s with it. All the while teaming up with lawman Harrison Ford, Oh and they try to attack an alien race that are obviously more technologically advanced than the Old West… I mean, how are you supposed to defeat an alien enemy without Will Smith, Ian Malcom and a Nuke?

The thing that disappointed me most about the trailer is that I didn’t really get a good sample of Mr. Craig’s southern drawl- NOR did I see any of Sam Rockwell, upsetting to say the least.

Latest Additions to the New Muppet Movie

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new Muppets movie will follow a familiar format and provide a myriad of cameo roles for actors to add to their resumes.

The latest actors to be connected to the film are Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis and Jean-Claude Van. I mentioned in an earlier article that Amy Adams and Chris Cooper would have more prominent roles, and Rashida Jones is now listed, too.

Naturally, scheduling so many different actors presents a problem to the studio, but I honestly don’t think losing a cameo actor to a scheduling conflict will break this film.  The most important factors, in my opinion, are story, music, and Muppet talent.  They need to be believable and funny, and the movie needs to capture the warmth and heart of earlier films like The Muppet Christmas Carol.  Will there ever be a scene as tender or memorable as when Kermit plays his banjo and sings “Rainbow Connection” in The Muppet Movie?

Probably not, but one can hope.

I also don’t think anything can compare to the cuteness of “I’m Gonna Always Love You” sung by baby Miss Piggy in The Muppets Take Manhattan, or the beauty of the wedding scene in the same film.  “Wedding, wedding, piggy froggy wedding” says it all.

The movie poster below gives a hint of all of the cameo actors that appeared in The Muppet Movie, and the list contains Orson Welles, Bob Hope, Carole Kane, Dom Deluise, and Steve Martin.

Similarly, the Muppets Take Manhattan had Brooke Shields, Joan Rivers, Dabney Coleman, Liza Minnelli, and several more.  Everyone wants to work with the Muppets.  If you don’t, there is something missing from you, like a heart, or a soul.

Incredible Hulk: The Porno

Vivid Entertainment, the company that brought us the Batman XXX and the forthcoming Star Wars XXX, released today the cover image and some more info about their pornographic take on The Incredible Hulk.

Obviously this is very Bill Bixby inspired.

From their press release:

LOS ANGELES – (November 15, 2010) – Vivid Entertainment, the world’s leading adult movie studio, is releasing the cover art for its eagerly awaited upcoming production of The Incredible Hulk: A XXX Porn Parody as part of its SuperXXXHeroes series.

The studio has already started production on the project, which will be a send-up of the iconic television series from the 1970s and 80s that was based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name. The movie will be directed by award-winning B. Skow, known for his best-selling Brand New Faces series.

Vivid said veteran adult actor Lee Stone, will play the Hulk character. Dale Dabone, who played the lead in Batman XXX: A Porn Parody, distributed by Vivid, will co-star in the Hulk parody as the lead character’s alter ego, Dr. Bruce Banner.

The SuperXXXHeroes parodies from Vivid spoof some of the world’s most popular comic heroes. Vivid Founder/Co-chairman Steven Hirsch notes, “These projects are moving forward rapidly. Axel Braun has already started pre-production on a parody of Superman. Along with The Incredible Hulk we plan to do parodies of The Green Hornet, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America and Thor as part of the new imprint.”

I think these are hilarious and actually feature better filmmaking than pretty much any porno I’ve ever witnessed.

What do you guys think about all these?

First Cowboys and Aliens Poster

I’m not familiar with the comic, Cowboys and Aliens (I know, ‘bad geek! bad!’), but everyone tends to describe it as “a classic western, but with aliens mixed in.” Okay . . .

Here’s what I do know, it’s a film based off a comic book, has something to do with cowboys and aliens, it’s directed by Jon Favreau, and stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde. Can I just give them my $8.50 now?

Also, the new poster is vague, but pretty bad ass none-the-less.

Paper Star Wars!

So… this is awesome… really… very… awesome…

I dig how the music doesn’t fit Star Wars in the slightest… (minus the lyrics of course)

Aronofsky’s Wolverine Film Gets a Title

For those of you that loathed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we have a little bit of good news (and maybe some renewed hope?) for you this morning.

HitFix recently spoke to the director about his latest film, Black Swan, and conversation briefly turned to the next Wolverine movie:

The film that he’s directing is officially called “The Wolverine,” and there won’t be a number attached to it. In our interview, he referred to the movie as a “one-off,” and he emphasized that the film isn’t a sequel in any conventional sense.

I like this. Aronofsky just taking the character and doing the movie based of Claremont and Miller’s graphic novel as he see’s fit – disregarding the previous films before it. Aronofsky is a fine director and I’m curious to see what kind of Wolverine movie we get out of him.

So what about all of you out there in BSR land? Does this renew any speck of faith you may have left in you that we may finally get a good Wolverine movie? Or are you convinced that anything a studio spits out about this character is just going to be shit? Sound off in the comments below or head on over to the BSR Forum!

Dennis Muren Shares Photos from ILM

Did you miss the Encore channel’s Industrial Light & Magic: Creating the Impossible?  Well, you have several more chances starting tonight at 8 pm EST, with additional showings on November 18, 19, and 23.

Meanwhile, Vanity Fair online has some photos shared by visual effects artist Dennis Muren.  You probably know him from some little-known movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2.

The melting of the Nazi villain Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark is a particular favorite of mine.  The scene is chilling, even compared to today’s CGI technology. Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has been on the cutting edge of technology since the days of Star Wars: A New Hope. Even when technology began moving away from models and matte paintings to computer screens, they managed to remain pioneers in the field.

The pictures at the site are only a hint of what ILM is capable of, but chances are you’ve seen their work in a ton of films.  You may not even know that what you were seeing was a special effect; they are just that good.
