Uhm- I don’t know how to call this one. It doesn’t look like there is much in the way of story- it honestly just looks like 4 guys get trapped in 1986 with no real reason other than- they can… LOOKS HILARIOUS!

UPDATED: Sigourney Weaver helps Spread the Rumors

Alright, I can’t emphasize this enough: Just about everything you hear about Ghostbusters 3 is a rumor. A few of the original cast have the script right now for review, I’m pretty sure Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are the only confirmed persons. So really they are the only cast member’s that would have any weight with the things the leak to the public.

Recently it’s been reported (all over the web basically) by Sigourney Weaver that GB3 is happening and her son Oscar from GB2 will be a new Ghostbuster. Another “fact” is that Bill Murray will be back… as Venkman’s ghost.  Here’s exactly what she’s said to one news source:

I’m afraid to say it [Ghostbusters 3] is happening, I hope people are excited about that. I don’t know if I’m going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking ‘would you read the script’.

I know that my little son Oscar – who was kidnapped from me – I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster.

I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it – he’s a ghost.

Most sites are reporting this as GB3 SPOILERS!!! when in fact it’s bull shit. It is truly amazing how fast bull shit rumors spreads on the internet. While they are fun to talk about or speculate, they are not news.

How about a couple of facts that we know:
• Most of the original cast is interested in participating.
• There is a script currently in the hands of Dan and Harold.
• Ghostbusters 3 rumors have been kicking around for over a decade now.
• Until Sony green lights the script, nothing is going to happen. Period.

The fact that everything she has said is just speculation (ludicrous speculation at that) is why I haven’t bothered reporting on it. We’ve received a lot of emails on the subject because of my love for the boys in grey, so I thought I’d set everyone straight.

For a more in depth view on these rumors, visit Proton Charging for their views on the subject.

UPDATED: Weaver tries to clear up a little of the confusion in another recent statement with Mtv:

“I don’t know,” she told our own Josh Horowitz. “He could come back as a sort of Slimer character.”

A Slimer? The very room service-chomping blob of green Jell-O that attacked him in the first film and gave him the catchphrase-worthy line, “He slimed me”? That’s a pretty specific reference from Weaver, and it leads us to believe what she said at the press conference was not just an off-hand comment. But Weaver went on to say she’s not yet read a script.

“I haven’t read the script,” she said. “They’re sending me the script. I guess my little son Oscar who was kidnapped is a Ghostbuster, which makes me very proud. So Ivan Reitman called me the other day and said he would love me to take a look at it. In a few weeks I’ll actually know what it is, though I probably won’t be able to talk about it.”

Honestly, the Oscar thing doesn’t seem that far fetched. If Venkman stayed with Dana for a while and ended up being a father figure for Oscar, it would make sense for him to want to be a Ghostbuster. It sounds like a lot of her information was just talking with Ivan and some of the “possibilities” for the movie.

MOVIE TRAILERS! Alice in Wonderland

The good people over at Den of Geek have given us access to the new Alice and Wonderland trailer… and let me tell you it has a WHOLE lot of new footage and story to give away than the ” target=”blank”>original teaser.

All I can say about this movie is that I am glad that Tim Burton decided to read the book… I mean… I had NO idea Alice in Wonderland was a tale of Alice becoming a Knight Errant and battling the legions of mordor *cough* I mean the Red Queen along side her most trusted general… the Mad… Hatter… in in an all out battle of courage, bravery, and… dragons…?

Stylistically- its Burton, so yes it looks very pretty… but… what? This is one time I can honestly say I hope the movie is better than the trailer is making it out to seem… Its also a case of a story that hasn’t been told enough to be re-inventing just yet… but, who am I to say Tim Burton doesn’t have the power to make Lewis Carroll ‘better’?

You can read more about it and see the trailer here!

MOVIE TRAILERS! Robin Hood and Clash of the Titans!

Two epic films released/leaked trailers this weekend and I have been in the throws of passing kidney stones… (one of which was a 40 hour ordeal, the second, I’m passing as I type this)

Before I begin, let’s get one thing straight… Remakes are a touchy subject for a lot of people… I have literally seen a fist fight start over a remake. (ultimately they were both scrawny, it resulted in at most a dead-arm) But, the point is, people either hate them or love them.

Its a toss up for me. I honestly believe ” target=”blank”>some films SHOULD be remade for they had, at one point, the potential of being good. But budget, time, bad script, bad acting, etc. got in its way.

Some movies should never be remade– They were got right the first time, there is usually no other effective way to portray the story… Which is a very ANTI remake argument: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I mean, why would I want to go back and re-sculpt the statue of David just to give it a bigger, more realistic _____?

As for now- and how I see it- movies are going to be remade, and the only thing I can do is sit back and hopefully enjoy what the new version is trying to say.

With that said, first I’ll start with Clash of the Titans(both the teaser and the trailer are at this link).

The teaser for this came out a couple weeks back and I have to say I was immediately torn- they used the technique of overly fast and hard edits with rock and roll/symphonic music… a technique I may add, that is incredibly effective on your majority audience! I’ll admit it got my blood pumping and my summer movie list growing.

But, it was this technique that made me question whether the film was going to be worth watching, because- more often than not, if you cut a trailer like that you’re trying to hide something!

Which brings me to the trailer. Granted- the trailer is really just an extended cut of the teaser, same music, same imagery+, but there is something that stands out a bit more in the trailer, to me at least: Throwbacks!

The full trailer shows just how much like the original the new one is going to be (right down to the designs of creatures), plus it shows a glimpse of the things that have been added… what we can look forward to in the remake.

It also shows that it relies heavily on CGI, but potentially has a good blend of practical effects(like the make-up in particular).

The last thing I noticed was the cast. A lot of the male roles seem to be played by men who most wouldn’t consider Hollywood pretty. It looks as though they are played by men, who look like men… I mean, where can one go wrong with Liam Neeson as Zeus!?

If I had to take a guess at story- I’d say don’t watch the original if you want to be surprised, but don’t expect much more new in the way of story.

NOW! On to a film I have been greatly anticipating since it was rumored. Another film and another remake. Or is it?

Robin Hood has been a story that has been told and re-told for centuries. Thus the reason its still being told today- THE STORY: and a very powerful PRO remake argument: Shakespeare’s tales have been told hundreds of thousands of times and in hundreds of  thousands of ways, in fact we LONG for a new version of Hamlet or Romeo and Juliet… their stories are timeless so why can’t they remake Casablanca?

In this version of Robin Hood’s defense, I’ll say its not a remake, its a re-imagining.

ROBIN HOOD!! Before you read further… click the link and watch the trailer.

Since I can remember hearing the Robin Hood story, I remember being a fan of it. I loved the idea of coming home and becoming a hero. I’ve always been a fan of the swash-buckling, high adventure spin that has always been put on it- but- there was always something missing for me… the danger.

let me tell you- after seeing this trailer, it looks as though Ridley Scott has added as much danger as this film can handle (including a Saving Private Ryan style beach landing) The things I gathered from this preview is that he’s made Robin Hood exactly what the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John have always made him out to be: a Savage. Robin looks to be what a spoiled Nobleman would become if he came back from a bloody, endless war to find his home(his safe haven) in destitute, under brutal law and ravaged by a tyrant.

Ya… I’d become savage too. It’s like… Gladiator meets Red Dawn… (think about it)

I’ve been wanting to see the dark side of Robin for quite some time and even though the recent BBC television series has dabbled in that realm- they have yet to cross the line between swash buckle to brutal.

This looks brutal.

If I were to take a stab at story I’d say- don’t be surprised if Robin or some other incredibly important character (*cough*Marian*cough*) dies in the end- because in order for “story to become legend” something like that will have to happen.

Thanks for reading- the typing actually took my mind off the pain of the stone for a bit (which might explain the length of this write up)

Enjoy!

Third Iron Man 2 “Clue” Now Online

I’m sure many have you been following these “clues” that have been released with regards to Iron Man 2. Prior to today, two news clippings had been released. The first with the word “Secret” highlighted, the second with “Stark” highlighted. Now this third one (courtesy of CHUD) has the word “Confession” highlighted. Kind of seems to me at this point that those speculating this has something to do with his alcoholism and the “Demon in a Bottle” story line may be leaning in the right decision…

Also, Entertainment Tonight will be showing “the first scenes from Iron Man 2” tomorrow (Wednesday, December 16) on their show. But in the mean time, they showed some quick snippets of these scenes on their promo. It’s not much, but it’s something. You can view the promo below the “clue”.

Another ‘Iron Man 2’ “Clue” Surfaces

Last week, an Iron Man 2 “clue” started floating around the interwebs that got a lot of Iron Man fans riled up. “What does it mean? What’s it going to unveil? etc.” Well, today, Screen Rant debuted a second “clue” for the film:

I am kind of thinking these “clues” aren’t going to lead to any huge reveal or anything… but we will just have to wait and see! Any ideas what these may mean?

No More Spider-Man for Bryce Dallas Howard?

 spiderman3_images_08

Comingsoon.net recently interviewed Bryce Dallas Howard and the topic of Spider-Man 4 came up and her role as Gwen Stacy. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: Will your character Gwen have a big role in “Spider-Man 4?”

Bryce Dallas Howard: Oh goodness! I don’t know. I mean, it was really made clear to me when we all did “Spider-Man 3” that it was entirely possible that a character could come back or a character could not and this could be just a specific plotline to that film because there’s so many stories in the comic book series and you want to pack as much in as possible so it’s truly up to Sam, up to, you know, the writers and the people who have done such an amazing job protecting that franchise and choosing the best storylines for audiences and I’m a fan first. I had an incredible time working with them but more than anything what I want is for that franchise to just continue to kick butt and to really appease the really really really loyal fans, so, including myself.

I can’t decide how I feel about it if she is indeed not going to be in Spider-Man 4. I love the character, but she obviously isn’t as big of a part in the Spider-Man movie continuity as she is in the comics. I would like to see the death of Captain Stacy play out and that dynamic, but we have a long way to go in the development of Peter and Gwen for that to happen with the appropriate emotional impact. Not to say Raimi couldn’t do it justice changing some things up, but, just like with all of these casting rumors and news stories, we will just have to wait and see.

What do all of you think? Should the Gwen and Captain Stacy story ark be played out in the Spider-Man movie on some level?

Anime Director Hiroshi Yamazaki talks about Halo Legends Sequence “The Duel”

 The_Duel_01--300dpi
Yamazaki’s Halo Legends episode, “The Duel,” goes back to ancient
times, at the dawn of the Covenant. A shamed Elite defies his role as
an “Arbiter” – an honored but suicidal role that would regain him a
shred of honor—to take a path of revenge against those that stole the
only thing that matters to such an amazing warrior: His true love.
This ancient Arbiter must fight his way through ever-growing groups of
his former allies (grunts, elites, hunters, etc.) until he finally
stands face-to-face with the elite who betrayed his trust.

The episode showcases the richness and depth of the Halo universe, and
gives fans a glimpse of one of their favorite protagonists, The
Samurai-style mythos of the Elites is framed in an animation style
that branches away from many of Halo Legends’ CG and traditional
animation approaches to present the anime via a unique filter – giving
the episode the look of a moving watercolor painting. Yamazaki and the
artists at Production I.G were responsible for this singular artistic
vision. So stunning and different are the tones and forms that
multiple viewings offer new insights on each pass.

A rising star in the anime community, Yamazaki has developed a loyal
following as he has grown his career from sound direction and
storyboarding to a celebrated run as an episodic director of
innovatively-blended visual action on the critically acclaimed hit CG
anime series KARAS. Similarly, Production I.G has been responsible for
numerous acclaimed feature films, television series and video games,
including the cyberpunk classic Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, The Wolf
Brigade and parts of Batman Gotham Knight.

Warner Home Video will distribute Halo Legends on February 16, 2010 as
a Special Edition 2-disc version on DVD and Blu-Ray™, as well as
single disc DVD and available On Demand and Digital Download. The DVD
anthology of episodic films based within the mythology of the popular
game Halo is produced by 343 Industries, a unit within Microsoft Game
Studios.

Yamazaki answered a few questions in regard to his participation in
bringing Halo Legends to animated life. Here’s that Q&A …

QUESTION:
What made you think Halo would lend itself to anime/animation?

HIROSHI YAMAZAKI:
I believe that the suitability (of a property for animation) depends
upon each story. This story definitely worked well in animation, and
in this style.

QUESTION:
What was the inspiration for your artistic vision in your episode of
Halo Legends?

HIROSHI YAMAZAKI:
I have been a lover of viewing the Halo art /illustration collection
books and such for some time and the entire collection of Halo
properties inspired me.

QUESTION:
Were there any particular images within the Halo realm that helped
shape or drive your creative vision?

HIROSHI YAMAZAKI:
When I was contacted by I.G about the project, I imagined that the
project would be very Sci-Fi in taste. However, when I met Mr. Frank
O’Connor (of 343 Indutries, Microsoft Games Studios) for the first
time, his requirement was to create a Samurai episode featuring an
Arbiter, and I was considerably and happily surprised.

QUESTION:
What did you set out to accomplish in this episode, and why do you
think you achieved or exceeded your goals?

HIROSHI YAMAZAKI:
What I was aiming for in this project was to make audiences understand
there should be other styles of animation beyond the existing two
primary kinds of animation presented – precisely cel-drawing 2D style
and CG 3D style. I wanted to show that creators are not limited, that
they have many options for different (animation) styles to create
stories.

QUESTION:
Did you feel you had the proper Halo experience to to bring the world
to life in anime?

HIROSHI YAMAZAKI:
I have played Halo 1 and 2 all the way through to the end. As I was so
busy in this project, I could not play Halo 3 but instead I watched
the gaming movie many times from the beginning to end.

QUESTION:
Did you include any “Easter eggs” for the devout Halo fans in your episode?

HIROSHI YAMAZAKI:
I employed the phrase “Akuma-da!” (“He is a devil” in English) as part
of the dialogue of a grunt soldier for fun for game lovers. I’m not
certain whether everyone will get to enjoy that treat, though, as I
understand the English version and Japanese version differ
considerably and I am not sure how this dialogue by the grunt is
treated in the English version.
