“Star Wars: Rebels” hits Disney XD sometime later this year, and we’ve got another sneak peak of the show, this time featuring Twi’lek pilot Hera and R2 unit Chopper
For those of you who were not at the Salt Lake City Comic Con FanXperience this weekend (wow! over 100,000! That makes us the third biggest convention in the US behind SDCC and NYCC!) you might have heard about a much tinier convention in Anaheim called WonderCon.
Executive Producer Dave Filoni (“The Clone Wars”) and the voice of Hera herself Vanessa Marshall (“The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy,” “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” “Young Justice”) introduced the clip to the WonderCon audience.
This makes me really excited. Not only does Chopper seem like a fun, and, well, more spastic droid than we’re used to dealing with, but Hera seems to have some of that roguish swagger we expect from hotshot star pilots. The fact that she’s a cocky, strong female character is icing on the cake. And given Vanessa Marshall’s c.v. voicing iconic characters like Black Canary and Natasha Romanoff seems like the perfect fit of voice actor to material.
The only head-scratcher left is why Filoni, Marshall and co were in Anaheim instead of Salt Lake City today. Yes, the Anaheim Convention Center is across the street from Disneyland while the Salt Palace’s closest tourist attraction is Mormon Temple Square, but still.
What we can hope for is, given Salt Lake’s huge attendance numbers, and that they will be having their actual Comic Con September 4 – 6 (likely close to the premiere of “Rebels”), that the “Rebels” cast and crew will come out and have a panel or two in a few months, hopefully moderated by BigShinyRobot’s own Swank-mo-tron? Perchance to dream.
We’ll probably see more of “Rebels” at San Diego Comic Con, but keep your eye here for all info on the show as it breaks.
Look– the official press release from Disney:
