The words “Ukulele” and “Orchestra” don’t often go together in a sentence, unless that sentence is- “There aren’t any damned ukulele’s in the orchestra!”
That’s why the existence of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is so bafflingly awesome. Formed in 1985 to “challenge people’s expectations of the ukulele,” they have a bunch of videos available on YouTube covering songs from “Ride of the Valkyrie” to “Psycho Killer,” their rendition of Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag” is my particular favorite.
If you like what you see, and you live in or around Utah, you can catch them at Kingsbury Hall, January 26, 2015. Tickets range from $25 to $50.
