This Week in [adult swim]: June 6, 2010 edition

Another amazing week for [adult swim] with premieres from The Boondocks, Squidbillies, and Check It Out.  But first, a moment of remembrance:

RIP Richard Dunn

Series regular Richard Dunn of Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job passed away.  Tim and Eric praised him as a “gifted comedic actor” and a great friend. We’ll fondly remember him from the benefit to give him your bones. Or his show “The Dunn-geon” where he tries to interview Dave Navarro.  He will be missed.

The Boondocks

This week Riley falls in with an even badder kid than him.  There are some great homages in this episode, including to classic horror films like The Omen or your typical monster movie.  To complete the homages, Grandpa seems convinced he needs special implements to stop him, asking Huey to get his holy water, wooden stakes, silver bullets, etc.  3 stars. Next week we see Riley take over the school candy bar “racket.”

Squidbillies

This week’s Squidbillies has Dan Halen blaming “Barack Hussein Obama” for putting flouride in the water. I’d laugh even more if this didn’t sound like the last Gayle Ruzicka/Carl Wimmer/insert your favorite Tea Party person here press conference I heard.  I get it now: the Squidbillies writers have been ghostwriting Sarah Palin’s facebook blog!  Eventually we end up with a bunch of toothless squids, an underground flouride smuggling ring, and Dan Halen selling the town teeth.  3 1/2 stars. Next week we have the Squidbillies delving into virtual reality.

Check It Out

More fun with Dr Steve Brule. This week is about health and Maria Bamford guest stars as a doctor who hooks Dr Steve to a computer to tell him whether or not he is handsome.  (He’s not) And so a makeover ensues!  Dr Steve interviews a football player and then challenges him to a footrace. And the best part of the episode– two commercials: one for aerobics with Dr Steve, and another for horse cheese.  3 stars for the amazing moments of brillaince, and 1 star for the parts that drag.  And they do.  Next week is an episode about Fear.

Something, Something Dark Side- Monday night!

The Family Guy sendup of Empire Strikes Back will be broadcast Monday night on [adult swim] in the place of the usual Family Guy episodes.  I’d tell you to set your DVRs, but you already have this on DVD right?

Frankenhole – COMING SOON

I have no idea what this show is, but promos feature Andy Dick and creator Dino Stamatopolous, who you may remember from Moral Orel. Coming June 27th, we’ll keep an eye out for this one and report back if there’s anything cogent to understand.

Robot Unicorn Attack – now for iPhone!

I play this game at least once every other day at work. And now you can get it for your iphone, assuming you have one.
