Back to the Future 2 gave us a grand view of the future that, for the most part, has gone unfulfilled. We’ve got one year left and unless you know something I don’t, 2015 doesn’t seem poised for hover boards and sadly, we do still need roads.
However, according to Tinker Hatfield, a Nike designer, we will have the one technology introduced in that movie that really matters. Power laces.
Technology has allowed us to slough off previously important skills including how to cook, and read/write; soon you’ll be able to add tying your shoes to that list.
You may have seen the Nike Air Mag’s based on BTTF2 that were auctioned in 2011, if we’re lucky we’ll get an updated version of that same shoe now with the automated laces. Though there is no official word on that front.
I’ve never really cared for tennis shoes but the geek in me wants to get some. I never thought I’d say that.
You can see a prototype of the new shoe below… I think.
