A week after posting a video countdown on YouTube, J.K Rowling announced the launch of “Pottermore”. Don’t get too excited quite yet, because it’s still something that is quite shrouded in mystery. In a YouTube video posted on the Pottermore website, J.K. explains to us that Pottermore is “an online reading experience unlike any other” that will be online beginning in October.
According to the video, Pottermore is the same story, but you help shape the Harry Potter world. There is some speculation, due to the release of a memo (reprinted in full at The Independent) in December that the website is going to be some sort of video game. From the sounds of it, it will be a reading experience with video game elements. My speculation is that it will be some sort of “choose your own adventure” type online game, where the readers will interact and play with other readers who choose a similar path.
In addition to the unique online reading experience, Pottermore will also be the exclusive place to purchase e copies of the Harry Potter books, as well as digital copies of the Harry Potter audio books. J.K. states that she will be participating with the website as well, and that she’ll be releasing parts of the Harry Potter story that she has been holding onto for years.
Whatever Pottermore is, it’s got this muggle pretty excited! I’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information is released. In the meantime, be sure to visit the Pottermore website and enter your e-mail for a chance to help shape Pottermore before it goes live in October.
