The Sailor Moon turned twenty this year, and though merchandising based on the popular anime series once dwindled to a trickle, we are seeing a resurgence in manga, T-shirts, and now new figures.
Some of this in no doubt due in part to the announcement that a new anime series will debut in 2013. Fans everywhere thrilled to the news that the lovable Sailor Moon and her Sailor Scouts would be returning on the small screen. The reprinted manga has also been very popular, with Volume 9 slated for release on January 29, 2013.
Bandai revealed their new S.H. Figuarts Sailor Moon figure at Japan’s Tamashii Nation 2012 preview event.
A release date is unknown, but it may coincide with the new anime series. So far, the only figure being promoted is Sailor Moon, but one can hope that the rest of the Sailor Scouts will follow, and perhaps a Tuxedo Mask. (Mamo-chan!!)
This does make me a little sad, though. It was always easy not to spend money on Sailor Moon items when they weren’t available, but now that’s no longer the case! And with the new series, who knows what else is on the horizon?
Actually, it’s a very exciting time to be a Sailor Moon fan, and there’s a lot to look forward to. 2013 looks like it will be a very interesting year.
