New Faces Joining “Dexter” Cast

Showtime’s long-running series Dexter will head into its eighth season with some new blood joining the cast.

Deadline reports that none other than Sean Patrick Flanery (Young Indiana Jones, Boondock Saints) will portray Jacob Elroy, “the ex-cop owner of a private investigation company in Miami.”  This is described as a “major recurring role” which thrills me to no end.  I’ve long been a fan of Flanery’s since the day he appeared on television as a young Indiana Jones.

He also appears in the movie Phantom, set to release in March of this year.

Also joining the cast of Dexter is veteran actress Charlotte Rampling (The Duchess, Melancholia).  According to CBS News, she “will play a neuro-psychiatrist who works with young psychopaths and profiles criminals in unorthodox ways.”

Rampling has several movies in the filming and post-production stages.

It is unclear whether or not the upcoming season will be the serial killer drama’s last, but “Dexter to Showtime is what Batman is to Warner Bros., it is a cornerstone franchise,” Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said.  Meaning, as long as the ratings hold up and the cast wants to continue, it would be just plain silly to stop production on the series.

Dexter Season 8 premieres on Showtime on June 30.
