Taylor Swift is not someone I can easily picture portraying a Disney Princess. After all, the Disney gals live happily ever after and don’t write songs about their princes after the relationship ends.
However, a recent Disney Parks Blog reveals that Swift was chosen to channel the spirit of Rapunzel from Tangled in the latest Disney Portrait Series image by photographer Annie Leibovitz. (Earlier images can be found here and here.)
Here’s a video that shows some behind the scenes footage:
You can see that the crew constructed a large tower on a soundstage, built to resemble the hidden tower where Rapunzel stared out her window and dreamed of seeing the mysterious lights that only appeared on her birthday.
Leibovitz and Swift experimented with several poses, some with a musical instrument, but the final shot simply shows Swift staring wistfully in the distance, her hair billowing in the breeze and wrapping around her prison, perhaps to symbolize the invisible chains that bind her to the tower and her “mother.”
The image will appear in Vanity Fair, InStyle, and People magazines.
