DC has officially announced that the Justice League movie will be released the summer of 2015, with plans to start principal photography next year. Warner Brothers had been waiting on a judge’s ruling regarding the rights to Superman before moving forward on the Justice League film, and now that the court has ruled in their favor, plans on future projects involving Superman can continue. Had WB lost the court battle with the estates of Superman’s creators, Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, then they would have been banned from using many of the iconic characteristics of Superman that we have become accustomed to, such as his super strength and speed, his alter ego of Clark Kent, and girlfriend Lois Lane, unless Warner Brothers agreed to an extremely costly new contract to license these aspects of the character.
Now that this is no longer a worry, Warner Brothers is going full force into getting the Justice League movie onto the big screen. The company is still working on a script and there is no director attached, nor actors for the main roles, but it has been confirmed that Christopher Nolan will be Executive Producing on this movie, just as he is on Man of Steel.
With Nolan’s run on Batman complete and Green Lantern bombing, Henry Cavill’s Superman is the only current DC comic character on the big screen who would probably take his portrayal into the Justice League movie, and it is assumed that Warner Brothers will use it as the launching pad for the series of their other heroes, such as Wonder Woman, Flash and the new Batman.
