The last few days have brought us even more Capitol Portraits of the characters in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, and one of the more controversial ones seems to be Finnick Odair.
The winning tribute from District 4, the fishing village, Finnick is played by Sam Claflin, and from the comments I’ve seen around the web, many people pictured him a bit differently than what is represented in the portrait.
But I have a pretty good idea Claflin will do Finnick justice in the role of the confident and cocky tribute. The picture, via MTV, shows Finnick gazing intensely at his audience. As with all the portraits, he holds a single white rose.
Next we have Peeta Mellark, portrayed by Josh Hutcherson. And can I just say, I don’t like his boots. They look like something a Stormtrooper would wear. (Photo PerezHilton).
I’m sure Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) needs no introduction, and I think we can plan on seeing more of Gale in the upcoming film. But why does he get a Capitol Portrait? He’s not a citizen of the capitol, and he’s not a tribute. All of the other portraits have been one or the other, so does this mean Prim will receive a portrait? Do the families (and friends) of tributes receive this same honor as those who fought in the arena? We are told to stay tuned for the spring issue, when we can expect to see even more portraits. Do you recognize the tribute in the portrait below? It’s our first look at Beetee (Jeffrey Wright). He is an expert with electricity, and he’s the tribute from District 3. (Photo TheHob).
And next is Johanna Mason, played by Jena Malone. She is another new face to this film, and she is from District 7, the lumber district. Johanna is sly and cunning, and she keeps Katniss wondering whether she is friend or foe.
And finally we come to President Snow, with his icy gaze and omnipresent rose. The villain of the story, Snow is an architect of evil, and he is intent on making Katniss pay for her defiance with the berries at the conclusion of the previous Hunger Games. (Photo Yahoo movies)
Who has been left out thus far? Mags, also from Finnick’s district, and Wiress, from Beetee’s. And since Gale is pictured, that opens up the possibility that many more characters will get their own portrait.
As the release date (November 22) approaches, who knows what else will be revealed? (Hopefully an actual trailer soon!)
