I’m sure almost all of us are familiar with the Evil Dead movie series (we’ve covered the reboot), but I think most people are unfamiliar with the musical of the same name. Yes, you read that right, a musical adaptation was made from Evil Dead, and it’s funny as hell!
The show started in Canada in 2003 before making its Off Broadway premiere in 2006, and while it has mainly stayed under the radar as a a cult classic over the last decade, it has grown in popularity and many have begun to consider it a ‘New Rocky Horror’.
One of the incredibly fun parts of Evil Dead is the fact it is presented in 4D — audience members in the front few rows are in the ‘splatter zone’ and will most likely end up splashed with blood and gore from the actors as they transform into Deadites and/or die on stage.
The show will be coming to the Grand Theatre in Salt Lake for 2 days and 4 performances only, this March 29 and 30th. Tickets are $21 and $31 for the splatter-free and splatter zones, respectively, and can be purchased here. Please keep in mind, that as popular as this musical has been, tickets are bound to sell out fast, so if you’re at all intrigued to see what it has in store, I’d recommend you pick up tickets as soon as possible. Lastly, tickets are General Admission, so show up early to get the best seats in your respective zones.
If you want to sample the soundtrack, you can check it out on Amazon. Please keep in mind that the soundtrack, like the movie and this clip, are definitely NSFW!
Hope to see you there!
