It was just announced at NYCC that the Crossed movie adaptation has been confirmed. Unfortunately, that’s about all the information that we have as no release date or plot line has even been hinted at yet. Ennis will also be writing and directing a few webisodes prior to the release of the movie in order to transition people into the world of the Crossed.
To the uninitiated, Crossed takes place in a post-apocalyptic world wherein millions of humans have contracted a disease that turns them into insidious creatures capable of perpetrating any heinous act that comes to mind in a quest to fulfill every evil impulse of the id. These people are marked with a rash across their brow and nose in the shape of a cross, hence the name. Each of the trades and issues deals with a separate set of survivors doing whatever is necessary, whether good or bad, to simply survive.
Crossed is an excellent series, but one I recommend with the caveat that it is EXTREMELY disturbing and parents would do well to keep kids and young teenagers away from it (in fact, I’m wondering how they will pull off the movie without an NC-17 rating). It has been collected in 5 trades, Crossed, Crossed: 3D, Crossed: Family Values, Crossed: Psychopath and Crossed: Wish You Were Here, and is currently running as a biweekly as Crossed: Badlands (with its first trade being released November 6).
