Disney Home Entertainment’s “The Pirate Fairy” will hit store shelves and digital stores on April 1, but if the stellar cast that includes Christina Hendricks and the aforementioned Tom Hiddleston doesn’t pique your interest, here’s a clip of Tom as Hook, singing “The Frigate that Flies.”
“The Pirate Fairy” joins a long and wildly popular list of Tinkerbell adventures. This story tells the tale of a misunderstood fairy named Zarina (Hendricks) that steals Pixie Hollow’s Blue Pixie dust, and runs away to join Hook and the other pirates of Skull Rock. Tink and her friends must deal with an unexpected twist on their adventure to retrieve the Dust and save their home.
The amazing cast doesn’t end with Hiddleston and Hendricks, as well known live action performers like Angelica Huston, Lucy Liu, Raven Symone, Megan Hilty, Lucy Hale, and Jane Horrocks will be lending their pipes to inhabitants of Skull Rock and Pixie Hollow. Mae Whitman reprises her role as Tinkerbell, which is almost as legendary a character as Ann Veal. Whitman is quietly developing quite the career, having appeared in pop culture enterprises like “Arrested Development” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” and has an an astounding list of vocal credits including several Tinkerbell gigs, Barbara Gordon, and April O’Neil.
Familiar voices will be joining familiar faces, as some of the hardest working voice actors in the business, like Rob Paulson, Grey DeLisle, and Kari Wahlgren are in featured roles as well.
While Tom Hiddleston’s singing voice is a nice surprise, I’m frankly a little more excited at the idea of a duet between Jane Horrocks and Megan Hilty. “The Pirate Fairy” just might be my first foray into Disney Home Entertainment.
