‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Poster, Trailer, and Tickets

Well, we’re getting to shake the box of our collective Christmas present a little bit early this weekend.

Lucasfilm dropped a brand new official one-sheet for “The Force Awakens” today in a prelude to tomorrow’s main event: Tickets for the film will go on sale tomorrow and we’ll be treated with a brand new trailer for the film that will premiere during a football game.

Some fans have complained about having to watch a football game, but this is good business for Disney. First, they own ESPN, so it’s a win for them on that front. Second, “Star Wars” is the ultimate big tent. Us super-fans are going to follow the trailer where ever it’s played, but many of these more casual fans watching Monday Night Football might not be as tuned in as we are. And “Star Wars” is for every body.

Here’s the official press release:

Lucasfilm announced today that the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will debut on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” on Monday, October 19, during halftime of the National Football League (NFL) game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia. The game starts at 5:15 p.m. PDT/8:15 p.m. EDT.  The Spanish language version of the trailer will air on ESPN Deportes simultaneously.

To commence the countdown for the trailer launch, today Lucasfilm released the Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster worldwide. Following the trailer launch, tickets to the highly anticipated cinematic event will be on sale everywhere movie tickets are sold.

In conjunction with the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer debut, the Walt Disney Company is providing unprecedented company-wide on-air and social support (#TheForceAwakens) as well as tying in events and special activities for the day of the trailer release.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in U.S. theaters on December 18.

As for the poster itself, I have a few questions. First, where is Luke Skywalker? Second, what is that space station? Third, did Padme come back to do Leia’s hair?

I couldn’t be more pleased with this image. And I hope the trailer tomorrow raises questions rather than answers them.

Get ready, though. The next two months are going to be crazy.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” comes out December 18, 2015.
