October is almost here, and with Halloween fast approaching, almost everyone will be hitting up the horror movie section at their nearest retailer, or on Netflix, in order to find something fun and scary that will make them shriek in fear or delight. Villains like Michael Meyers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger, just to name a few, have become just as iconic as the classic movie monsters of old, and have millions of dedicated fans who can recite their plot lines and body counts just as easily as some people can quote sports statistics. But what makes a horror movie a ‘classic’ and are these movies that are held in such high regard still relevant or hold up just as well today? Here at Big Shiny Robot, we are going to address this questions all month long.
Starting tomorrow, and continuing until Halloween, a bunch of us are going to rewatch some of these films and post a review, thoughts or reflections about it and why we think it’s important and should be required viewing for your Halloween scare-a-thons.
Here is a list of the movies we’ll be discussing:
Nightmare on Elm Street
Night of the Living Dead
Psycho
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
Silence of the Lambs
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Evil Dead 2
The Shining
Alien
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
The Thing
Halloween
I’m well aware that there are a lot of movies that didn’t make this list, but rest assured we will cover them at a later date. If there is a movie that you think just HAS to be here, let us know in the comments below and maybe we’ll be able to squeeze it in!
