Earlier today a new trailer for the upcoming Potter film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” premiered on “The Ellen Show.” This trailer gives a closer look at the primary conflict of the film. It seems, that the focus will only be partly on the release of magical creatures by Newt Scamander in the United States. Those events serve as a catalyst for an existing conflict between the magical community and Nomags (muggles).
We also get a look at representatives of the New Salem Philanthropic Society, a group of non-magical people dedicated to rooting out and exterminating witches and wizards.
The trailer also shows Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) leading the charge against non-magical humans in an effort to come out of the shadows. His proclamation, “We’ve lived in the shadows too long… I refuse to bow down any longer” encapsulates feelings of oppression from the moral majority.
Fantastic Beasts promises to show us a story in the Potterverse the likes of which we haven’t seen before. Rather than a magical dark wizard with genocide on his mind, the conflict here is the human penchant for division and moral superiority. While the Potter series explores the dangers of leaders who abuse their power, Fantastic Beasts promises to shine a light on the darkness inside us all.
