Disney Magic on DVD

How would you like to own one (or more!) Disney documentaries early? Disney Movie Collections is currently taking orders for Waking Sleeping Beauty, The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story, and Walt & El Grupo. In addition, if you order all three DVDs before November 29, you will also receive three free lithographs.

I have heard a lot of good things about Waking Sleeping Beauty, and it’s a documentary I definitely plan to see.  It looks at all the drama and creativity that gave Disney another Golden Age and gave viewers the magic and music of The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.  It was during this era that I fell in love with Disney films and briefly entertained the idea of becoming an animator.  It was a time when I believed in fairy tales.

The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story is one I hadn’t heard of before today, but I have long been familiar with the names Richard and Robert Sherman.  Maybe you know a little song called “It’s a Small World?”  They wrote it.  What about “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room?”  No?  Then you haven’t visited the Enchanted Tiki Room at Walt Disney World.  I have, and I have that song in my head more than “It’s a Small World.”  Fortunately, it’s catchy and I love it.  They also wrote the songs for Mary Poppins.  Classic.  Timeless.  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Now that you know who they are, you can learn more about them in this documentary, which includes interviews with Roy E. Disney (Walt’s nephew), Angela Lansbury (Bedknobs & Broomsticks), and Dick Van Dyke (Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang).

The third available documentary entitled Walt & El Grupo peeks into the life of Walt when he served as a cultural ambassador to South America.  He and his artists achieved goodwill during this “WWII road trip,” and resulted in the films Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros (which inspired a ride at the Mexico Pavilion at Disney’s World Showcase)
