Well, Tom Cruise stayed at the top spot for another week. Mostly because Josh Trank and Fox released yet another awful “Fantastic Four” film. I mean it got worse ratings than “Pixels” and nobody liked that movie. Hell, out of the two reviews on this site, one gave a 0 (a bit hyperbolic) and the other a 6. That’s just awful. The last time a non-MCU owned Marvel character film did this badly was the “Ghost Rider” sequel. That film was unwatchable and made just $4 million less than “Fantastic Four.”
Maybe, just maybe, Fox will see the light like Sony did and just let Marvel take over the characters. Fox obviously can’t tell a good FF story, which to be honest isn’t going to be easy for anyone, so maybe they should let the people who’ve made Thor and Ant-Man successful take over.

A quick note on budgets and dollar figures:
Films making back their budgets is a good sign, but that is just the money to film. It doesn’t include distribution and marketing. Marketing can cost as much as a film. That big Superbowl spot is spendy. So take that into account when judging a film’s success. Hitting $100 million isn’t the same as it once was.
