The Box Office was very slow over Labor Day. When the #1 movie makes less than $10 million, it isn’t a great weekend, but it is kind of normal for September. There were two new releases, “A Walk in the Woods” and “The Transporter Refueled.” Neither of those could really get people out to the theater. It’s basically “Old Guys go Hiking” and “Where’s Jason Statham?”
“War Room” was able to take the top spot from “Straight Outta Compton” in its second week and had a very small drop. Christian themed movies have done very well this year so this is really no surprise.
“Jurassic World” was able to join the international three commas club as of the 5th. It joins fellow Universal film “Furious 7” as one of just 4 films to ever do that, the other 2 being “Avatar” and “Titanic.”

A quick note on budgets and dollar figures:
Films making back their budgets is a good sign, but that is just the money to film. It doesn’t include distribution and marketing. Marketing can cost as much as a film. That big Superbowl spot is spendy. So take that into account when judging a film’s success. Hitting $100 million isn’t the same as it once was.
